In 2025, 172,979 Emirati nationals arrived in Thailand (MOTS, preliminary; expats are not counted). We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here; eSIM Go is not affiliated with e&, du, Virgin Mobile UAE, True, dtac or AIS.

Data in Thailand from the UAE: four options side by side

A Thailand SIM card from the UAE comes in four forms: a True or tourist SIM bought in Thailand, a weekly pack on your e&, du or Virgin Mobile UAE line, Virgin’s One Country pass (34 countries on Virgin’s page on 15 Oct 2026, Thailand included), or a data eSIM installed before you fly.

OptionPriceWhat you needWeak point
e& (Etisalat), du or Virgin Mobile roaming pack AED 35.00 to AED 1,200.00 a pack
from about AED 15.00 per GB
Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly Costs more per GB than the eSIM
Pocket Wi-Fi router Not verified Collect it, keep it charged and return it One connection for the group, only while you stay together
Local SIM bought on arrival Not verified A free SIM slot and a shop after landing On a one-slot phone it replaces your UAE SIM
Travel eSIM from this site from AED 12.99 by card; from AED 3.35 per GB An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator Data only: no calls or SMS on your UAE number

Pack prices as listed by e&, du and Virgin Mobile on 15 Oct 2026; AED per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are in AED at the day’s rate: your card is charged exactly that amount.

A plastic Thai SIM needs a slot, so on a single-tray phone it replaces your UAE SIM; packs, the pass and an eSIM alternative leave it in place. True and AIS also sell eSIM versions, so the slot matters only for plastic.

Thai tourist SIMs: True and AIS, unlimited for 5 to 60 days

True and price an unlimited Thailand SIM card in baht, from 349 THB for True’s 10-day data-only SIM to 1,599 THB for 60 days at AIS (16 Oct 2026). At 8, 15 and 30 days the two brands charge the same: 499, 699 and 1,199 THB. We do not convert baht to AED. True’s 8- to 30-day SIMs add “Unlimited call to all network in Thailand”, free up to 15 minutes per call; AIS adds free calls inside its own network.

Sources: True tourist SIMs and AIS Lucky Tourist SIM (16 Oct 2026). True’s prices include VAT; AIS prints no VAT statement next to its tourist prices, so we show them as listed. The per-day column is our arithmetic. The data is “Max Speed” unlimited at both; on True’s 10-day SIM “voice services are disabled”.

The steps matter on a short trip: a 7-day stay pays for the 8-day SIM, so 499 THB is about 71.3 THB for each day you are there, against 62.4 THB over all 8. If you need no calls, True’s 10-day data-only SIM is 349 THB, about 49.9 THB a day over the same 7 days (our arithmetic).

Where to buy an AIS tourist SIM or True’s: True says its SIMs are “Available at True and dtac service centers nationwide, as well as 24/7 at airport locations”. AIS points to “Find AIS Shop” or an online eSIM. The True page names no terminal or counter, so for a Suvarnabhumi airport SIM confirm the desk before you rely on it. Three ways to get online in Thailand: a local SIM, a roaming pack on your UAE line or a data eSIM

e&, du and Virgin Mobile in Thailand: one week or two

For a week in Thailand your UAE line costs AED 100.00 on e& prepaid (4GB), du postpaid (10GB) or Virgin Mobile UAE (2GB), and Virgin’s One Country pass makes it free on plans of 20GB and up.

For two weeks, buy a second pack. du sells data-only bundles anytime and runs up to 5 at the same time, so add the second 10GB bundle when the first week ends: two du postpaid bundles are AED 200.00 for 20GB over 14 days. Virgin starts a new pack once the current one expires or runs out, so you can buy both before you fly. Virgin’s One Country pass “won’t auto renew”, so re-activate it in the app each month. e&’s pack starts at first use in Thailand. du’s API and FAQ disagree on when postpaid bundles activate, so buy the first one shortly before you fly and check the activation note in the du app.

du also sells a travel eSIM for Thailand: US$4 (about AED 14.69) for 1GB and 7 days, and US$20.50 (about AED 75.29) for unlimited 7 days (15 Oct 2026).

Unlimited in Thailand: 5GB a day at full speed

Our Thailand eSIM is unlimited for 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 or 30 days, at full speed up to 5GB a day and then 1 Mbps. The 7-day unlimited plan (5GB a day at full speed) is AED 77.99, about AED 11.14 a day (our arithmetic).

Unlimited (5GB a day at full speed)7 daysAED 77.99

The plan runs on True and 5G, the same two networks as the tourist SIMs above, so the gap is registration, calls and a number rather than which towers you connect to. True and AIS write “Max Speed” with no daily figure; ours is 5GB. If you stream video most of the day or tether a laptop, a Thai tourist SIM fits better: no daily figure in the quoted lines, and calls on every plan except True’s data-only one. If you want data the moment you land, no passport scan and no face check, and your UAE number kept for SMS, take the eSIM. More: Thailand eSIM plans and unlimited eSIMs.

Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay.

Registering a Thai SIM: passport, face check, three per brand

A Thailand SIM card for tourists must be registered with a valid passport under NBTC rules, at most 3 SIMs per person per brand, and its validity “must not exceed 60 days” (True, 16 Oct 2026).

True’s self-registration asks you to “Scan your passport and confirm your information” and “Complete face verification”. After expiry the validity “cannot be extended via top-up”, and you re-identify with a passport at a True dtac Shop. says “Please register your SIM card before use in Thailand”, and a tourist who wants to keep the SIM beyond 60 days from activation must reconfirm identity by SMS to 4444161 or at an AIS Shop.

Our eSIM has no identity check; install it before you fly and it connects when you land in Thailand, with the days counted from then. Our eSIMs for Thailand are data-only: no calls, no SMS, no number. Keep your UAE SIM switched on for SMS; e& and Virgin Mobile don’t charge for SMS you receive abroad, and calls you receive are charged per minute. Setup: keep your UAE number.

Our eSIMs are for use outside the UAE; they do not provide service in the UAE. If the eSIM has not connected to any network, you can get a refund within 30 days of purchase.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Thailand?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your UAE line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Thailand as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. On this plan it sets itself, so leave it alone; you don’t need to type one.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find True and AIS; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.ae with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, AED 12.99. For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, AED 28.99. If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, AED 77.99, with 5 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your UAE number every day, roaming on your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line keeps them, and some packs include minutes (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Where can I buy a SIM at Bangkok airport?

True says its tourist SIMs are “Available at True and dtac service centers nationwide, as well as 24/7 at airport locations” (16 Oct 2026). The page names no terminal or counter, and we have no airport data for , so confirm the desk first.

AIS tourist SIM vs eSIM: which one for a week?

AIS lists its 8-day Lucky Tourist SIM at 499 Baht with “Unlimited Data, Max Speed” and free calls inside the AIS network (16 Oct 2026). Our 7-day unlimited eSIM is data-only, full speed up to 5GB a day, then 1 Mbps. AIS suits calls and all-day video, the eSIM data on landing.

Do I need to register a Thai SIM?

Yes. True says a tourist SIM “must be registered with a valid passport in compliance with NBTC regulations”, at most 3 SIMs per person per brand, and AIS asks you to register before use (16 Oct 2026). True’s self-registration is a passport scan and a face check. Our eSIM has no identity check.

Can I get unlimited data in Thailand?

True and AIS list tourist SIMs with unlimited data at “Max Speed” for 5 to 60 days (16 Oct 2026). Our unlimited eSIM runs 3 to 30 days at full speed up to 5GB a day, then 1 Mbps. Check each operator’s fair-use terms before you buy.

Will my UAE SIM use data in Thailand without a pack?

No. On your UAE number, e&, du and Virgin Mobile UAE block mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack (15 Oct 2026). Only e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data, for 24 hours by SMS; du and Virgin Mobile offer none.
