Data in Turkey from the UAE: the options side by side

A Turkey SIM card for a UAE resident comes in four forms: a or tourist line paid in lira, a roaming pack on your e&, du or Virgin Mobile UAE line (AED 70.00 to 200.00 a week), Virgin’s free One Country pass on a 20GB+ plan, or a data eSIM installed before you fly. Turkey is in the main roaming zone of all three operators.

Turkcell and Vodafone tourist lines: passport, 90 days, lira

’s Tourist Welcome Pack costs TL 1,800, and Türkiye defines a Welcome To Turkey Pack of 750 minutes and 20GB for 28 days on a new line (16 Oct 2026). Both need a passport, and Turkcell charges in lira.

Sources: Turkcell (printed “1.800 TL”) and Vodafone. TL 1,800 for 20GB is TL 90 per GB with minutes and SMS included (our arithmetic); we do not convert lira to AED.

Turkcell sets the rules up front: “lines can only be purchased within 90 days before or after arrival”, with “only a valid passport”, so an Emirates ID will not do. In-app eSIM activation, Turkcell’s tourist eSIM, needs a biometric (chipped) passport, an NFC scan and a “liveness check”; otherwise visit a Turkcell store within 90 days of applying. You enter “the address where you will be staying” and pay in lira by a card that “supports international and online transactions”. We have no data on what a UAE bank charges for that. A Vodafone price PDF is dated January 2024, so we quote none of it.

e&, du and Virgin Mobile in Turkey: a week in Istanbul

A week in Istanbul on your UAE line costs AED 70.00 to 200.00 in weekly data packs, AED 245.00 in seven daily packs, or AED 0.00 with Virgin’s One Country pass on a 20GB+ plan (checked 15 Oct 2026, 15 Oct 2026, 15 Oct 2026).

The clocks differ. e&: “validity starts upon first eligible usage”. Virgin: “validity will begin once the first call is received or made”. du’s data-only bundles “will only be activated during your travel”, but for the postpaid 10GB bundle du’s API and FAQ disagree, so buy it shortly before you fly and check the activation note in the du app.

Turkey is on the Virgin One Country list (34 countries on the page, 15 Oct 2026), and “It won’t auto renew. Don’t forget to re-activate every month.” du’s own Travel eSIM lists Turkey at about AED 12.85 (US$3.50) for 1GB · 7 days (15 Oct 2026).

The 120-day phone registration rule, and when it matters

BTK, Turkey’s regulator, lets a phone brought from abroad work with a Turkish SIM for up to 120 days from your entry date; after that it must go through IMEI registration. A 7-day trip uses 7 of the 120 days.

BTK’s release of 8 May 2017 says registration is due “120 gün içerisinde” of entry, and that unregistered devices are cut off (our translation). You register through e-Devlet, “IMEI Kaydet”, for a fee. The only figure in the release is TL 149.20 for 2017; we could not confirm today’s fee. Sources: BTK, e-Devlet (16 Oct 2026).

The rule bites when you live in Turkey for months on a Turkish SIM. Our longest Turkey plan runs 30 days, so a trip on it uses at most 30 of the 120 days. We have no BTK text on how the rule treats an eSIM or a roaming line, so for a stay beyond 120 days ask a Turkish operator or BTK.

Unlimited in Turkey: pick the length up front

Our Turkey eSIMs run on Türk Telekom 5G from 1GB to 50GB, with unlimited data for 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 or 30 days, at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps. Unlimited plans cannot be topped up.

Our Turkey eSIMData · daysPrice in AED
Small1GB · 7 daysAED 10.99
Medium10GB · 30 daysAED 33.99
Unlimited7 daysAED 55.99

The 7-day unlimited plan is about AED 8.00 a day (our arithmetic). Buy 5 days and stay 7, and you buy a second plan; 7 days bought at the start avoids it. Data plans can be topped up. Turkey is also one of 41 destinations in our Europe plan (Europe SIM card guide); our other plans are on the Turkey eSIM page.

Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay.

Our eSIMs for Turkey are data-only — keep your UAE number on your main SIM for calls and SMS. Keep your UAE SIM switched on for SMS; e& and Virgin Mobile don’t charge for SMS you receive abroad, and du doesn’t publish that price; calls you receive are charged per minute (keep your UAE number). Our eSIMs are for use outside the UAE; they do not provide service in the UAE. Install before you fly; it connects when you land in Turkey. On Android, set the APN by hand. If the eSIM has not connected to any network, you can get a refund within 30 days of purchase.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Turkey?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your UAE line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Turkey as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add globaldata on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Turk Telekom (Avea); this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.ae with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, AED 10.99. For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, AED 16.99. If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, AED 55.99, with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your UAE number every day, roaming on your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line keeps them, and some packs include minutes (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Can I use an eSIM in Turkey?

Our Turkey eSIMs run on Türk Telekom 5G, from 1GB for 7 days to 50GB for 30 days, plus unlimited for 3 to 30 days at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps (15 Oct 2026). Our eSIMs are for use outside the UAE; they do not provide service in the UAE. Install before you fly; it connects when you land in Turkey.

How much is a Turkey SIM card?

’s Tourist Welcome Pack costs TL 1,800 for 20GB, 200 minutes and 100 SMS, and it needs your passport (16 Oct 2026). Türkiye lists no SIM price. Our data eSIM starts at AED 10.99 for 1GB and 7 days, with no passport check.

Do I need to register my phone’s IMEI for a short trip?

A short trip stays well inside BTK’s limit: a phone brought from abroad has 120 days from your entry date before registration, so a 7-day trip uses 7 days. We could not confirm the current fee; BTK’s 2017 release names TL 149.20.

Can I top up the unlimited Turkey plan?

No. Our Turkey unlimited plans cannot be topped up, so a 5-day plan does not stretch to 7 days; you buy a new plan. Data plans from 1GB to 50GB can be topped up.

Does my UAE SIM work in Turkey without a pack?

Not for mobile data: your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line won’t use mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack (e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS). Turkey is in the main roaming zone of all three operators (15 Oct 2026).
