Virgin Mobile UAE roaming: One Country, Roaming Pass and an eSIM
Virgin Mobile roaming is free in one country a month on Virgin Mobile UAE plans of 20GB and up, through One Country Data Roaming. Anywhere else you pay for a Roaming Pass from AED 100.00 for 7 days or a data pack from AED 35.00 for 1 day (virginmobile.ae, 15 Oct 2026). Virgin has no pay-as-you-go data rate, so without one of these your data does not work abroad.
We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. eSIM Go is not affiliated with e&, du or Virgin Mobile UAE.
- One Country — free for one calendar month in one country from Virgin’s list, on plans of 20GB or more; re-activate every month

- Out-zone — AED 120.00 · 20MB or AED 200.00 · 40MB for 7 days, no calls

One Country Data Roaming: free on 20GB+ plans in 34 countries
Free roaming on 20GB+ plans is Virgin’s strongest offer: your own plan data works for one calendar month in one country you choose from a list of 34 (virginmobile.ae, 15 Oct 2026). Free is below any eSIM price, ours included, so check this list first.
Virgin’s page says “Choose 1 country from 34 countries”. It does not renew: “It won’t auto renew. Don’t forget to re-activate every month.” Virgin’s FAQ says “31 listed”; we use the page list, checked 15 Oct 2026.
The 34: Australia, Brazil, Canada, China, Egypt, France, Germany, Greece, India, Indonesia, Ireland, Italy, Jordan, Kuwait, Lebanon, Malaysia, Morocco, Norway, Oman, Pakistan, Philippines, Qatar, Romania, Russia, Saudi Arabia, Singapore, South Africa, South Korea, Spain, Switzerland, Thailand, Turkey, United Kingdom and USA.
Not on the list: Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka, Bahrain, Georgia and Japan. Four of the five other Gulf countries are on it, all but Bahrain; see One Country in the Gulf.
Roaming Pass: your plan’s data abroad
The Virgin Mobile Roaming Pass makes the data and minutes already in your plan work abroad. Data costs AED 100.00 for 7 days, AED 300.00 for 30 days or AED 600.00 for 365 days. You need a plan worth AED 79.00 or more; Pay As You Go and Tourist plans cannot buy it.
| Validity | Pass for plan data | about AED per day | Pass for plan minutes |
|---|---|---|---|
| 7 days | AED 100.00 | 14.29 | AED 50.00 |
| 30 days | AED 300.00 | 10.00 | AED 100.00 |
| 365 days | AED 600.00 | 1.64 | AED 325.00 |

The Pass adds no data; it opens your plan’s allowance abroad, and not all of it: “Promotional and shared data or mins aren’t included in the Roaming Pass.” For a week the Pass costs AED 100.00, the same as the 2GB pack. If your plan has more than 2GB left outside promotional and shared data, the Pass gives you more for the same money. In a One Country destination, a 20GB+ plan needs neither.

Roaming packs: a day, a week, a month
Virgin Mobile roaming packs run from AED 35.00 for 750MB and 1 day to AED 300.00 for 20GB and 30 days; unlike the Pass, they need no minimum plan. The 20GB pack costs the least per gigabyte, about AED 15.00; the 1-day pack is about AED 46.67 per GB.
| Pack | Data | Validity | Price | about AED per GB | about AED per day |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| Day | 750MB | 1 day | AED 35.00 | 46.67 | 35.00 |
| Week | 2GB | 7 days | AED 100.00 | 50.00 | 14.29 |
| Week | 10GB | 7 days | AED 200.00 | 20.00 | 28.57 |
| Month | 20GB | 30 days | AED 300.00 | 15.00 | 10.00 |

Of the two 7-day data packs, the 10GB one at AED 200.00 gives five times the data of the 2GB pack for twice the price. Minutes are sold separately: AED 20.00 for 30 minutes and 1 day, or AED 130.00 for 500 minutes and 7 days, incoming and outgoing together. That is about AED 0.67 and AED 0.26 a minute.
Out-zone countries: megabytes only
In out-zone countries Virgin Mobile roaming sells data in megabytes: AED 120.00 for 20MB or AED 200.00 for 40MB, each valid 7 days. For minutes, Virgin’s page says “Roaming is unavailable”. That is about AED 6.00 and AED 5.00 per MB, or AED 5,000.00 per GB at the 40MB price (our arithmetic).
Out-zone examples on the page include Latvia, Monaco, Moldova, Chile, Ethiopia, Haiti, Libya, Panama, Syria, Yemen. Andorra is in no Virgin list. Congo (Dem Rep) and Timor-Leste are in both the pass-and-pack zone and the out-zone, so check with Virgin Mobile before you go.
One r/dubai user asked on 11 Sep 2023: “Will Virgin roaming cover all of Schengen?” Not as one zone. In Europe, Latvia, Monaco and Moldova get only the megabyte packs; Andorra is in no list. One Country covers one European country a month from France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Norway, Romania, Spain, Switzerland and the United Kingdom. For a route through several countries, see Europe eSIM plans.
How to activate roaming in the Virgin Mobile app
Activate Virgin Mobile roaming in the app: open the Roaming tab, pick your country and activate One Country, once a month. Roaming packs are sold in the same app; buy them before you fly or after you land.
When the days start:
- Weekly and monthly packs: “The validity will begin once the first call is received or made.” The page does not say whether data use alone starts the clock, and we could not confirm it.
- Daily packs are “valid for 24 hours from first use”.
- One Country runs for one calendar month and stops; switch it on again for the next month.
- Our eSIM: install it before you fly; it connects when you land, and its days start on the first connection in the destination.
If the app will not open abroad, one r/dubai user (10 May 2026) found the fix in phone settings: “you have to turn on roaming as well as mobile data in your phone settings, even if u don’t have a roaming package! Turn off WiFi as well - then you can access the virgin uae app”. That is one user’s report, not a Virgin instruction.
Business use, and when a data eSIM is the better choice
A frequent traveller on a 20GB+ plan gets the most from Virgin Mobile roaming: One Country free of charge each month, or the 365-day Pass at about AED 1.64 a day. We have no data on Virgin’s business plans; ask Virgin. Reliability is the open question. On r/dubai, 22 Oct 2025: “I travel at least once a month and never had an issue with Virgin Roaming and I use it a lot”. On 27 Nov 2025: “I was in Spain in June and couldn’t make calls or use data for 2 weeks.” Two single reports, not a measure of the network.
A travel eSIM beats Virgin Mobile roaming when the country is not on the One Country list, your plan is under 20GB, the country is out-zone or Andorra, you need more than one country in a month, or you want a backup data line. Keep your Virgin number for calls and SMS; our eSIM adds data only.
| Country | On One Country list | Virgin pack, 20GB · 30 days | Our eSIM, 30 days | Our eSIM, about per GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| No | AED 300.00 | 20GB: AED 104.99 | AED 5.25 | |
| Nepal | No | AED 300.00 | 10GB: AED 88.99 | AED 8.90 |
| Sri Lanka | No | AED 300.00 | 10GB: AED 50.99 | AED 5.10 |
Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay. Virgin’s pack is 20GB in every row, about AED 15.00 per GB, so compare the per-GB column. Plans: Bangladesh, Nepal, Sri Lanka. Our eSIMs are for use outside the UAE; they do not provide service in the UAE. If the eSIM has not connected to any network, you can get a refund within 30 days of purchase. Method: how we compare; by country: Roaming or eSIM?; all three UAE operators: roaming from the UAE.
Before you fly
- Check that your destination is on the One Country list and your plan is 20GB or more, then activate it in the app.
- Keep your UAE SIM switched on for SMS; Virgin doesn’t charge for SMS you receive abroad. Calls you receive are charged per minute: AED 4.00 in the UK and India (Virgin country rates, 15 Oct 2026). Setup: keep your UAE number.
- Using our eSIM for data: install it before you fly and leave your Virgin line on for calls and SMS.
