Umrah and Hajj from the UAE: e& or du Umrah pack, or a Saudi eSIM?
For a week of Umrah, the e& Umrah Pack costs AED 100.00 for 7GB (prepaid) or AED 150.00 for 15GB (postpaid), and the du Umrah roaming package costs AED 150.00 for 10GB and 1000 voice minutes (e& 15 Oct 2026, du 15 Oct 2026). Our Saudi Arabia eSIM is data-only, with no minutes; its 10GB, 30-day plan costs AED 75.99.

We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The tables show when your operator pack is the better choice. eSIM Go is not affiliated with e&, du or Virgin Mobile UAE. Pack details are taken from their own pages on the date shown; how we compare explains the method. If you need lots of calls home during Umrah, your e& or du Umrah pack is hard to beat. If you mostly need data, or stay longer than a week, an eSIM is cheaper.
Umrah packs from e& and du side by side
e& and du sell four Umrah packs between them. The e& postpaid pack gives the most data, 15GB; the du Umrah roaming package gives the most minutes, 1000 (e& 15 Oct 2026, du 15 Oct 2026).
| Pack | Line | Data · days | Minutes | AED | about AED per GB | about AED per day |

| e& Umrah Pack | postpaid | 15GB · 7 days | 650 + 50 | AED 150.00 | 10.00 | 21.43 |
| du Hajj and Umrah Bundle, Umrah Bundle | prepaid, postpaid | 10GB · 7 days | 1000 | AED 150.00 | 15.00 | 21.43 |

Source: e& Umrah and Hajj pack, eand.ae (checked 15 Oct 2026); du roaming page and FAQ, du.ae (checked 15 Oct 2026). The per-GB and per-day columns are our arithmetic. Our prices are charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee.
e&’s 650 minutes are “for receiving calls from anywhere and making calls to the UAE and KSA”. du counts 1000 minutes incoming and outgoing, and says the bundle “only works within Saudi Arabia”. Full pages: e& Umrah Pack, du Hajj and Umrah Bundle. Other Gulf trips: GCC roaming packs.
When the days start: before ihram, at the border or at purchase
e&’s 7 days start at your first use on Mobily, STC or
Zain in Saudi Arabia; du’s Umrah bundle starts the moment you buy it (e& 15 Oct 2026, du 15 Oct 2026). Buy the e& pack before you leave and the du bundle on the day you fly.
| Option | When the days start | When to buy |
|---|---|---|
| e& Umrah Pack | “valid for 7 days from the first eligible usage on any roaming partner network in Saudi Arabia (Mobily, STC, and Zain)” | Before you leave |
| du Hajj and Umrah Bundle, Umrah Bundle | “Immediate activation upon purchase” | The day you fly |
| du Umrah and GCC data bundle | “from the time of first use” (du’s bundle list) | Up to 60 days before you fly |
| Our Saudi Arabia eSIM | At the first connection in Saudi Arabia | Install before you fly |
An early du purchase has a price: AED 150.00 over 7 days is AED 21.43 a day, so a bundle bought 2 days before the flight burns AED 42.86 of use before you land (our arithmetic).
Before ihram. Do the phone setup at home: install the eSIM, buy the e& pack, check the du line.
At the border. If you drive, one r/dubai poster wrote on 27 Dec 2024: “as soon as you cross the border and enter KSA, your UAE mobile service will stop, unless you have active roaming.” That is one person’s experience. Buy the pack and install the eSIM first; an installed eSIM starts its days only when it connects in Saudi Arabia.

Calls home or data: what pilgrims actually need
The e& pack includes 650 + 50 voice minutes and du’s 1000; our Saudi Arabia eSIMs are data-only, with no calls, no SMS and no phone number. Calls and SMS stay on your UAE line either way, so the choice is how often you call home.
At e&’s standard Gulf rate a call to the UAE costs AED 2.203 a minute (e&, 15 Oct 2026). Ten minutes a day for 7 days is 70 minutes, or AED 154.21, more than the whole AED 150.00 postpaid pack. e& charges AED 0.808 a minute for calls you receive in the Gulf, so all 650 pack minutes would cost AED 525.20 as incoming calls or AED 1,431.95 as calls to the UAE (our arithmetic). Our Saudi Arabia eSIMs are data-only; calling apps are subject to the rules of the country you are in. If calls matter, buy minutes.
Our data calculator assumes 0.3GB a day for maps and messaging, 0.8GB for social media and photos and 1.7GB for video and video calls. Over 7 days that is 2.1GB, 5.6GB or 11.9GB (our arithmetic). The e& prepaid 7GB and du’s 10GB cover the first two profiles; only the e& postpaid 15GB covers all three. Work out your own number with the data calculator.
On 6 Aug 2025 an r/Umrah poster advised: “Depending on who your provider is, you may be able to add roaming onto your plan for a set time which could be cheaper than getting an eSIM.” That is one person’s experience. A Jeddah airport SIM is a third route; see Saudi Arabia SIM card from the UAE. On 24 Jul 2026 another r/Umrah poster wrote: “Bought Mobily ESIM in Madinah airport. Was told I’ll get a mail in 10 mins, but didn’t for hours.” That is one person’s experience too.
Longer stays and Hajj: 15 to 45 days
A 7-day pack ends on day 7. e& allows its Umrah Pack “up to 2 times at any given time”, so two packs cover 14 days. du’s bundle starts at purchase, so buy a second one only when the first ends. For 15 to 45 days a Saudi eSIM is one purchase on
Zain’s 5G network, and one plan covers Makkah and Madinah alike because it is sold for Saudi Arabia, not a city: 25GB for 45 days costs AED 189.99, about AED 4.22 a day.
| Option | Days | Data | Minutes | AED |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| 2 × e& Umrah Pack, prepaid | 14 days | 14GB | 1300 + 100 | AED 200.00 |
| 2 × e& Umrah Pack, postpaid | 14 days | 30GB | 1300 + 100 | AED 300.00 |
| 2 × du Umrah Bundle | 14 days | 20GB | 2000 | AED 300.00 |
| Our Saudi Arabia eSIM, unlimited | 15 days | full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps | none | AED 204.99 |
| Our Saudi Arabia eSIM, 25GB | 45 days | 25GB | none | AED 189.99 |
The doubled rows are our arithmetic. We found no e& statement on how a second pack starts; check the app. The unlimited plan gives up to 21GB at full speed in 7 days and 45GB in 15 days (3GB a day, our arithmetic). See the Saudi Arabia eSIM plans for every size; they can be topped up.
Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee. Full refund to the same card within 30 days of purchase, if the eSIM has not connected to any network. Our eSIMs are for use outside the UAE; they do not provide service in the UAE.
We have no Hajj-specific figures or pilgrim counts from the UAE. For a Hajj SIM, use the same arithmetic: days times data per day, plus minutes.
Travelling as a family: one pack each or one eSIM each
An operator pack belongs to one line and an eSIM to one phone, so a family of four buys four of either. Four e& prepaid packs cost AED 400.00; four e& postpaid packs or four du bundles cost AED 600.00 (our arithmetic).
An eSIM needs a supporting phone; Apple lists “iPhone XS, iPhone XS Max, iPhone XR, or later” (Apple Support UAE, 15 Oct 2026). A parent’s older phone can take the operator pack while a newer phone takes an eSIM. On a dual-SIM phone, keep your UAE SIM for calls and SMS and put the eSIM on data: keep your UAE number. Sharing one eSIM’s data by hotspot depends on the plan, and we have no confirmed rule for Saudi Arabia plans, so ask support before you buy one eSIM for several phones.
Before you leave for Umrah: a short checklist
One action per step, whichever Umrah SIM you pick.
- Install the eSIM at home. It connects when you land in Saudi Arabia, and its days count from that first connection.
- Buy the e& Umrah roaming pack before you leave. Buy the du Umrah roaming pack on the day you fly.
- On a du line, text “roaming” to 5102. du says roaming is activated by default “for UAE nationals only” and tips “SMS roaming to 5102 to check if your line is activated with roaming services”.
- Keep your UAE SIM switched on for SMS. e& and Virgin Mobile don’t charge for SMS you receive abroad; calls you receive are charged per minute. du doesn’t publish a price for SMS you receive abroad, so check with du. No operator page promises that bank OTP SMS will arrive abroad.
- Don’t skip the pack. Your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line won’t use mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack (e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS).
- Visas, permits and the Nusuk app are outside this page; use the official Saudi sources.
A week in Saudi Arabia: roaming pack vs eSIM
1.3× cheaper than prepaid packs Free on Virgin Mobile 20 GB+ plans5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it, and postpaid where it is lower.
On roaming your UAE number also takes calls and SMS; the eSIM is data only. In the Gulf your e& or du roaming pack can be as cheap as an eSIM, and Virgin Mobile plans from 20 GB include one country free. An eSIM wins on short trips, on prepaid lines and against 10-day GCC packs. Packs at the operator’s AED price, as listed on 15 Oct 2026; the eSIM at its AED price on 16 Oct, charged in AED by card. Work out your own trip.
FAQ
Which SIM or eSIM is best for Umrah from the UAE?
Choose by calls. The e& (AED 100.00 or AED 150.00) and du (AED 150.00) Umrah packs include 700 or 1000 minutes; our Saudi Arabia eSIMs are data-only. Call home daily: take the pack. Mostly data, or more than 7 days: take an eSIM.
How much is the e& or du Umrah roaming package and what is included?
e& prepaid is AED 100.00 for 7GB, 7 days and 650 + 50 minutes; e& postpaid is AED 150.00 for 15GB. du is AED 150.00 for 10GB, 7 days and 1000 minutes. The e& days start at first use in Saudi Arabia, the du days at purchase (15 Oct 2026).
Can I buy a Saudi SIM at Jeddah or Madinah airport?
One r/Umrah poster reported operator kiosks at the main entrances of both airports on 7 Nov 2024. We have no official airport list, so check prices and documents with the operator.
Do I need calls during Umrah or is data enough?
Data is enough for maps and messaging: 0.3GB a day, or 2.1GB over 7 days. Calls to the UAE cost AED 2.203 a minute at e&’s standard Gulf rate, so 70 minutes is AED 154.21. Call daily and the pack’s minutes pay off.
