Gulf roaming or eSIM: Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain
A 3-day Gulf trip costs AED 100.00 on the e& GCC pack (the Etisalat Oman roaming package), AED 99.00 on a du GCC bundle and nothing on a Virgin Mobile UAE plan of 20GB or more. The alternative is a data-only eSIM for one country, such as Oman at AED 48.99 for 5GB. The e& and du packs work in all five Gulf countries; Virgin covers four, and we have no Gulf-only eSIM plan.
We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The tables show when your operator pack is the better choice. eSIM Go is not affiliated with e&, du or Virgin Mobile UAE. Pack details are taken from their own pages on the date shown. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee.
- e& GCC — AED 100.00 · 5GB · 3 days, or AED 200.00 · 15GB · 10 days
- du GCC — AED 99.00 · 5GB · 3 days (prepaid), or AED 199.00 · unlimited · 10 days
- Virgin One Country — free · your plan’s data · one calendar month · 20GB+ plans
- Our eSIM — one plan per country, data only
- No pack — your line will not use mobile data in the Gulf
When the days start:
- e&: Weekly and Monthly packs are “Charged upon purchase but validity starts upon first eligible usage.” e&’s GCC terms page returned an error on 15 Oct 2026, so the clock of the 3-day and 10-day packs is not confirmed.
- du: data-only bundles “will only be activated during your travel” and can be bought up to 60 days ahead. For postpaid data bundles du’s API and FAQ disagree, so buy shortly before you fly.
- Our eSIM: install before you fly; it connects when you land, and the days count from that first connection.
Gulf trips from the UAE: what your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line already covers
Your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line won’t use mobile data in Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait or Bahrain unless you add a roaming pack (e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS). du has no pay-as-you-go data and Virgin Mobile UAE lists none (operator pages, 15 Oct 2026).
The e& unlock costs AED 0.04626 per 30KB in the GCC, about AED 1.54 per MB, or about AED 7,700.00 for 5GB (our arithmetic). Treat it as a stopgap, not a way to use data on a trip.
One r/dubai commenter (5 Dec 2019) wrote: “I traveled to muscat last week, but there’s no signal for my etisalat number. I tried to connect to omantel and ooredoo but failed. Once I got back dubai, signal immediately appeared.” That is one person’s experience, from 2019. We found no e& page on this case, so ask e& before you fly. Search results for “GCC roaming” also show Saudi operators’ offers for their own subscribers; this page is for UAE lines.
e& and du GCC packs: 3 days and 10 days
For Oman, e& sells a GCC pack and du a matching GCC bundle: each is one purchase for Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. e& charges AED 100.00 for 5GB over 3 days, du AED 99.00 for the same size (e& 15 Oct 2026, du 15 Oct 2026). For 10 days e& charges AED 200.00 for 15GB and du AED 199.00 for unlimited data. We could not confirm a fair-use limit for du’s unlimited bundle. For a longer stay, the Oman SIM card guide compares
Omantel and
Ooredoo tourist SIMs with roaming and an eSIM.
| Operator · line | Pack | Data · days | AED | about AED/GB | about AED/day |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| e& GCC 3-Day Pack · prepaid + postpaid | GCC 3-Day | 5GB + 10 + 10 min · 3 days | AED 100.00 | 20.0 | 33.3 |
| e& · prepaid + postpaid | GCC 10-Day | 15GB + 30 + 20 min · 10 days | AED 200.00 | 13.3 | 20.0 |

| du · prepaid + postpaid | GCC | unlimited · 10 days | AED 199.00 | no GB figure | 19.9 |
| du · postpaid | Umrah and GCC data | 10GB · 3 days · data only | AED 99.00 | 9.9 | 33.0 |
| du · postpaid | roaming data | 10GB · 7 days | AED 100.00 | 10.0 | 14.3 |
Source: e& GCC packs, prepaid and postpaid catalogues (15 Oct 2026); du prepaid and postpaid roaming pages (15 Oct 2026). Per-GB and per-day columns are our arithmetic. We could not read e&’s terms for these two packs, so conditions beyond its catalogue are not confirmed. The du 10GB week is not GCC-only but works in all five countries. For Umrah see Umrah and Hajj.
du’s FAQ answers the weekend-traveller question, “If I travel within the GCC and come back to the UAE, then travel to the GCC again, can I still use the bundle?” with “Yes, if you travel within the validity period of the bundle.” We found no such rule for the e& GCC packs.

Virgin Mobile One Country: four Gulf countries free on 20GB+ plans
Virgin Mobile UAE’s One Country pass is free and uses your own plan’s data in one country for one calendar month (Virgin Mobile UAE, 15 Oct 2026). Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait are on its list; Bahrain is not.
Virgin’s wording: “Get a FREE Data Roaming Pass To your chosen country with any 20GB + plans.” You “Choose 1 country from 34 countries”, while Virgin’s FAQ says one country “from the 31 listed”. Check the list in the Virgin Mobile One Country rules and the app. On Virgin’s rates page, calls you receive in Saudi Arabia cost AED 0.808 a minute, and SMS you receive abroad are free (Virgin country rates, 15 Oct 2026).
A weekend in Oman or ten days around the Gulf: which option fits
In the Gulf your e& or du roaming pack can be as cheap as an eSIM — and Virgin Mobile plans from 20GB include one country free. An eSIM wins on short trips, prepaid lines and 10-day unlimited. The live verdict by country is in the roaming calculator and on roaming or eSIM.
- One country, Virgin plan of 20GB or more: the free pass is the better tool, unless the country is Bahrain.
- One country, 3 days, prepaid line: the Etisalat Oman roaming package costs AED 100.00 and du’s GCC bundle AED 99.00. A 5GB eSIM for Oman is AED 48.99 and runs 30 days from its first connection in Oman, more than a 3-day trip needs.
- Two weekends a week apart: one du unlimited bundle at AED 199.00 covers both by du’s rule if its 10 days start at your first trip. Two 3-day du packs cost AED 198.00 (2 × AED 99.00, our arithmetic) for 5GB each.
- Ten days, several countries: one pack covers all five; with a per-country eSIM you buy one plan for each country. Saudi Arabia alone has 10-day unlimited at AED 129.99: full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps.
- An Oman road trip: install the Oman eSIM before you leave home. We have no data on which network a phone joins near the border.
Country by country: one eSIM plan for each Gulf country
We have no Gulf-only eSIM plan, so the table compares one data plan per country. Each 5GB plan runs 30 days from its first connection in that country. For a Qatar trip, the Qatar SIM card guide sets the
Ooredoo and
Vodafone visitor SIMs against these plans.
| Country | Network listed | Virgin One Country | 5GB · 30 days | Unlimited |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Oman | Omantel | yes | AED 48.99 | 3–30 days |
| Saudi Arabia | Zain | yes | AED 49.99 | 1–30 days |
| Qatar | Vodafone | yes | AED 43.99 | 3–30 days, no top-up |
| Kuwait | Zain and STC | yes | AED 36.99 | 3–30 days |
| Bahrain | STC and Batelco | no | AED 36.99 | 3–10 days only |
Source: our catalogue and Virgin Mobile UAE (15 Oct 2026). Unlimited plans run at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay. You can get a refund within 30 days of purchase if the eSIM has not connected to any network.
Bahrain is the gap: it is not on Virgin’s list, and our unlimited plans there stop at 10 days. A 3-day or 10-day GCC pack from e& or du covers it.
We promise no coverage, for an eSIM or a pack, and we have no coverage data for roads between cities. A Qatar resident who drives to Saudi Arabia wrote on r/Umrah (13 Jul 2026): “I have tried every Esim company there is. I recommend absolutely none of them.” They advise a Saudi SIM from the airport. That is one person’s experience.
Data only: calls home stay on your UAE line
Our eSIMs for Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain are data-only: keep your UAE number on your main SIM for calls and SMS. A roaming pack is the better tool when you need minutes: e&’s GCC 3-Day Pack includes 10 + 10 minutes and the 10-Day Pack 30 + 20.
Keep your UAE SIM switched on for SMS; e& and Virgin Mobile don’t charge for SMS you receive abroad; calls you receive are charged per minute. du doesn’t publish a price for SMS you receive abroad — check with du. In the GCC an incoming call is AED 0.808 a minute on e& and AED 0.81 on du, and a call to the UAE is AED 2.203 on e& and AED 2.21 on du (e& and du standard rates, 15 Oct 2026). Our eSIMs do not provide service in the UAE. More on keeping your UAE number; for a local SIM in Saudi Arabia see the Saudi Arabia SIM guide.
Before you fly:
- Add a roaming pack or an eSIM; without one your line won’t use data in the Gulf.
- Check the Virgin list in the app and re-activate the pass each month.
- Buy a du data-only bundle shortly before you fly.
- Install the eSIM before you fly; it connects when you land.
- Keep your UAE SIM on for SMS; calls you receive are charged per minute.
FAQ
Does my UAE SIM work in Oman or Saudi Arabia without a pack?
Not for mobile data. e& blocks it, du has no pay-as-you-go data and Virgin Mobile UAE lists none (15 Oct 2026). e& unlocks pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS “UBLOCK” to 1010, at about AED 1.54 per MB in the GCC (our arithmetic).
How much is the Etisalat Oman roaming package for 3 days?
e& sells it as its GCC pack: 5GB for 3 days at AED 100.00. du sells 5GB for 3 days at AED 99.00 on prepaid (15 Oct 2026). Both work in Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain. For 10 days e& charges AED 200.00 for 15GB and du AED 199.00 for unlimited data.
Which Gulf countries are free with Virgin Mobile One Country?
Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait are on Virgin Mobile UAE’s list; Bahrain is not (15 Oct 2026). The pass is free on plans of 20GB or more, covers one country per calendar month and must be re-activated each month.
Is there one eSIM for all GCC countries?
We have no Gulf-only plan. Oman, Saudi Arabia, Qatar, Kuwait and Bahrain each have their own data-only plan with us, and Bahrain’s unlimited plans run 3 to 10 days only. A du or e& GCC pack covers all five with one purchase.
Can I use the same du GCC bundle on a second trip?
Yes, if the second trip falls within the bundle’s validity. du’s FAQ says: “Yes, if you travel within the validity period of the bundle.” We found no such rule for e&’s GCC packs (15 Oct 2026).
