Bahrain SIM card from the UAE: Batelco, GCC roaming or a data eSIM
A Bahrain SIM card from Batelco starts at BD 3 for 12 hours on its GCC Visitor plan (16 Oct 2026), and
Zain Bahrain says a fingerprint scan is mandatory when you activate a SIM in a shop. A GCC roaming pack from e& or du on your UAE number is AED 99.00–100.00 for 3 days. A data-only eSIM on STC and Batelco 5G starts at AED 15.99 for 1GB and 7 days. We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here, and eSIM Go is not affiliated with e&, du or Virgin Mobile UAE.

Data in Bahrain from the UAE: the options side by side
Four routes get you online in Bahrain: a Batelco visitor plan from BD 3, an e& or du GCC pack from AED 99.00, a Virgin Mobile UAE pack from AED 35.00 for a day, or a data eSIM, price in AED from AED 15.99. Bahrain is the one GCC country missing from Virgin One Country, so none of these is free.
| Option | Price | What you need | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| e& (Etisalat), du or Virgin Mobile roaming pack | AED 35.00 to AED 1,200.00 a pack from about AED 13.33 per GB | Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly | Costs more per GB than the eSIM |
| Pocket Wi-Fi router | Not verified | Collect it, keep it charged and return it | One connection for the group, only while you stay together |
| Local SIM bought on arrival | Not verified | A free SIM slot and a shop after landing | On a one-slot phone it replaces your UAE SIM |
| Travel eSIM from this site | from AED 15.99 by card; from AED 5.00 per GB | An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator | Data only: no calls or SMS on your UAE number |
Pack prices as listed by e&, du and Virgin Mobile on 15 Oct 2026; AED per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are in AED at the day’s rate: your card is charged exactly that amount.
Your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line won’t use mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack (e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS).
eSIM for Bahrain: most chosen plans
Your card is charged exactly AED 15.99; the charge is in UAE dirhams. The seller is registered outside the UAE, so some banks may still add a foreign-merchant fee — how card payment works.
What it costs per day
Plan price in AED ÷ days, at the rate of 17 Oct. A longer plan usually costs less per day: pick by your trip length, not by the lowest daily price.
Batelco GCC Visitor plans and the fingerprint rule
Batelco lists GCC Visitor plans at BD 3 for 12 hours and BD 4 for a day (batelco.com, 16 Oct 2026). A Bahrain SIM card also needs a fingerprint scan, which
Zain Bahrain applies to “All subscribers, residents and visitors”.
You activate each plan by SMS (“ST3” or “ST4” to 88188), so you need a working Batelco line first. Both plans include “Unlimited Batelco Minutes” and “50 Minutes to any GCC country”. Their data line has an asterisk whose footnote is not on the page, so we quote no allowance. “Hotspot sharing is not included”; a BD 2 add-on covers it.
We do not convert dinars to AED. On a short business trip of one day, the BD 4 day plan beats two 12-hour plans at BD 6. Ten day plans in a row come to BD 40 (our arithmetic), so for a longer stay compare Batelco’s regular prepaid data, from BD 7.500 for 30 days.
Zain Bahrain calls the scan “mandatory whenever you are visiting our retail shops or approved resellers for service activation” and says “It is now in force as per the latest Telecommunications Regulatory Authority’s regulation.” Non-GCC nationals show a “Valid Passport or Bahraini ID (CPR)”; GCC nationals a “Valid Passport or ID card issued by a GCC state”. A UAE residence permit is on neither list, so carry your passport.
Zain allows up to 10 prepaid lines per person. We have not read Batelco’s own SIM rules and have no Zain Bahrain or stc Bahrain prices, so ask at the counter.

e&, du and Virgin Mobile in Bahrain: GCC packs, no One Country
Five GCC packs from e& and du cover Bahrain at AED 99.00–200.00 for 3 to 10 days, and du’s postpaid 10GB weekly bundle works there too (as listed on 15 Oct 2026). Virgin One Country does not list Bahrain.
| Pack | Line | Data | Days | AED | AED per GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|---|
| e& GCC 3-Day Pack | prepaid + postpaid | 5GB | 3 | 100.00 | 20.00 |
| e& GCC 10-Day Pack | prepaid + postpaid | 15GB | 10 | 200.00 | 13.33 |
| du GCC data bundle | prepaid | 5GB | 3 | 99.00 | 19.80 |
| du GCC data bundle | prepaid + postpaid | unlimited | 10 | 199.00 | n/a |
| du Umrah and GCC data bundle | postpaid | 10GB | 3 | 99.00 | 9.90 |
| du roaming data bundle | postpaid | 10GB | 7 | 100.00 | 10.00 |
Sources: e&, du postpaid and prepaid. Per-GB is our arithmetic. Rules: e&, du.
In the Gulf your e& or du roaming pack can be as cheap as an eSIM — and Virgin Mobile plans from 20GB include one country free. Bahrain is the exception: the list has Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait (34 countries on the page, 15 Oct 2026). Virgin’s roaming packs for Bahrain start at AED 35.00 for 750MB and one day; a week is AED 100.00 for 2GB or AED 200.00 for 10GB.
For postpaid du data bundles the du API and du’s FAQ disagree on when the days start, so buy shortly before you fly and check the activation note in the du app.
Stopping in Qatar or Kuwait on the same trip? We have no GCC-only plan, so a Qatar eSIM or Kuwait eSIM is a separate purchase; see a trip to several Gulf countries. The Qatar SIM card guide covers
Ooredoo and
Vodafone Qatar; the Kuwait SIM card guide covers local lines there.
A week in Bahrain: roaming pack vs eSIM
2.5× cheaper than prepaid packs5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it, and postpaid where it is lower.
On roaming your UAE number also takes calls and SMS; the eSIM is data only. In the Gulf your e& or du roaming pack can be as cheap as an eSIM; Virgin Mobile’s free One Country roaming covers Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait, but not Bahrain. An eSIM wins on short trips, on prepaid lines and against 10-day GCC packs. Packs at the operator’s AED price, as listed on 15 Oct 2026; the eSIM at its AED price on 17 Oct, charged in AED by card. Work out your own trip.
Unlimited in Bahrain: 3 to 10 days only
Our unlimited Bahrain plans run 3, 5, 7 or 10 days at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps: 3 days cost AED 77.99, 10 days AED 179.99 (about AED 18.00 a day).
For two weeks take a GB plan: the Bahrain eSIM plans include 10GB for 30 days at AED 62.99. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay. An eSIM wins on short trips, prepaid lines and 10-day unlimited.
Our Bahrain eSIMs are data-only — keep your UAE number on your main SIM for calls and SMS, and leave that SIM switched on. e& and Virgin Mobile don’t charge for SMS you receive abroad; we found no du price for them, so check with du. Calls you receive are charged per minute.
Our eSIMs are for use outside the UAE; they do not provide service in the UAE. Install before you fly; it connects when you land in Bahrain. On Android set the APN by hand; iPhone does it itself. If the eSIM has not connected to any network, you can get a refund within 30 days of purchase.
Check before you fly
What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Bahrain?
Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.
The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your UAE line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.
The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Bahrain as roaming for it.
The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add globaldata on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.
The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find STC and Batelco; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.
Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.ae with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)
For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, AED 15.99. For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, AED 36.99. If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, AED 144.99, with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.
I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your UAE number every day, roaming on your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line keeps them, and some packs include minutes (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.
FAQ
Is Bahrain covered by Virgin One Country?
No. Virgin One Country lists Saudi Arabia, Oman, Qatar and Kuwait among its 34 countries, not Bahrain (15 Oct 2026). A Virgin line needs a roaming pack, such as AED 100.00 for 2GB and 7 days.
Do I need fingerprints for a SIM in Bahrain?
For a shop activation, yes, according to
Zain Bahrain: the scan applies to residents and visitors (16 Oct 2026). We have not read Batelco’s terms. A data eSIM is installed before you fly, with no shop visit.
Which SIM has an unlimited data plan in Bahrain?
Batelco lists a GCC Visitor plan at BD 3 for 12 hours and BD 4 for a day; its data footnote is not on the page, so we quote no allowance (16 Oct 2026). On your UAE line, du’s GCC bundle is AED 199.00 for 10 days of unlimited data, but we could not confirm its daily limit. Our unlimited plans run 3, 5, 7 or 10 days at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps.
Does my UAE SIM work in Bahrain without a pack?
Not for mobile data: du and Virgin Mobile UAE block it abroad, and e& opens pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours only after you send an SMS. Calls still reach your number, at AED 0.808 a minute on e& and AED 0.81 on du in the GCC (15 Oct 2026). Bahrain is not in Virgin One Country, so a Virgin 20GB+ plan does not cover it either.
Can I use the du GCC bundle on several trips?
Yes, within its validity: du’s FAQ says “Yes, if you travel within the validity period of the bundle.” So the AED 199.00 bundle can cover a second GCC trip inside 10 days.
