Etisalat (e&) roaming packages: prices, Roam Like Home and an eSIM

Globe wrapped in dotted connection lines beside a smartphone

An Etisalat roaming package costs AED 35.00 for 1 day and 500MB, AED 100.00 for 7 days and 4GB (prepaid) and AED 350.00 for 30 days and 6GB (e&, 15 Oct 2026). The 4GB and 6GB are promo volumes until 10 Jan 2027. Without a pack your e& line blocks mobile data abroad. A data eSIM is the other route, and it keeps your UAE number on for calls.

We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here. The tables show when your operator pack is the better choice. eSIM Go is not affiliated with e&, du or Virgin Mobile UAE. Pack details are taken from their own pages on the date shown; how we compare explains the method.

e& roaming packs: daily, weekly and monthly prices

e& lists eight main Etisalat roaming packages, from the AED 35.00 daily roaming pack to the AED 1,000.00 monthly First Class pack (e&, 15 Oct 2026). Every volume below except the Daily Data 500MB is an e& anniversary promotion until 10 Jan 2027: the prepaid weekly roaming pack is 4GB now and normally 2GB.

We found no e& statement about prices after 10 Jan 2027. If the AED prices stay and the volumes return to normal, the price per GB doubles or triples:

Two more packs have their own pages: the e& GCC 10-Day Pack and the e& Umrah Pack. More operators: roaming hub.

Prepaid or postpaid: which e& packs you can buy

Prepaid lines can buy seven of the eight packs above and postpaid lines six, because each line has its own Weekly Combo and only prepaid has a data-only week (e&, 15 Oct 2026). So in prepaid vs postpaid roaming the week is where the lines split: a postpaid week means the AED 250.00 Weekly Combo, or Roam Like Home at AED 100.00 on a Freedom plan.

The prepaid Weekly Combo is AED 150.00 for 7GB plus 300 + 30 minutes; the postpaid one is AED 250.00 for 5GB and 500 minutes: AED 100.00 more and 2GB less. Economy, Business and First Class are listed for both line types. e& Homebound (AED 105.00, 420 or 630, “5% VAT included” as e& writes it) is for people leaving the UAE for good, not for a trip.

Roaming routes the phone back through the home network; a travel eSIM connects to a local network
Two ways to stay online abroad: a roaming pack on your UAE line or a separate data eSIM

Roam Like Home: only for Freedom plans

Weekly Data costs AED 100.00 for 7 days and Monthly Data AED 350.00 for one month on Roam Like Home, which uses your plan’s data with fair use at 25GB and 40GB, then 128 Kbps (e&, 15 Oct 2026). The terms say: “Roam like Home is available only to Freedom Plan customers.”

If a Freedom plan used the whole cap, the week would cost about AED 4.00 per GB (100 ÷ 25) and the month about AED 8.75 per GB (350 ÷ 40). That is the ceiling case, our arithmetic.

Etisalat roaming charges & rates: per day, per GB and without a pack

Without a pack, e& blocks mobile data abroad. Texting UBLOCK to 1010 opens pay-as-you-go roaming data for 24 hours, at about AED 33.00 per MB on postpaid outside the Gulf and about AED 1.54 per MB inside it (e&, 15 Oct 2026, our arithmetic).

The Etisalat roaming rates split the world into three roaming zones: GCC countries, the rest of the world, and satellite, maritime and flight operators; the table shows the first two.

Roaming chargesGCCRest of the world
Incoming call, per minuteAED 0.808AED 4.25
Call to the UAE, per minuteAED 2.203AED 9.50
Outgoing SMSAED 0.22AED 2.00

Data, per MB rateabout AED 1.54about AED 33.00 postpaid, about AED 50.00 prepaid

Source: e& standard roaming rates, eand.ae (checked 15 Oct 2026); VAT not applicable. The per-MB row is our arithmetic with 1MB = 1,000KB.

The AED 35.00 day pack gives 500MB, about AED 0.07 per MB, so postpaid pay-as-you-go outside the Gulf costs about 476 times more per MB. A 2018 post on r/dubai fits: “Etisalat charged me AED 173.00 for 5.56MB of data (roaming) usage outside the plan.” That works out to about AED 31.00 per MB. That is one person’s experience.

How to activate, buy or cancel an e& roaming pack

To activate roaming, buy an Etisalat roaming package in the My Etisalat UAE app, dial *177# (free within the UAE and abroad) or send an SMS to 1010. Weekly and Monthly packs are “Charged upon purchase but validity starts upon first eligible usage”; Daily packs charge only on first use (e&, 15 Oct 2026).

  1. Buy the pack. Weekly and Monthly packs take your money now.
  2. Land and connect to a partner network. Daily: “Charge starts upon first usage in eligible countries (not charged upon subscription)”. Weekly and Monthly days start at the first eligible use.
  3. Use data. The Daily terms add “Auto-renewal on days of use”, so each new day of use is another AED 35.00: seven days cost AED 245.00 for 3.5GB (our arithmetic).
  4. An eSIM connects when you land, and its days count from that first connection.

To cancel a roaming pack, only the Monthly packs have a published rule: “Pack is one time and cancellation is not allowed.” We found no cancellation rule for Daily and Weekly packs, so check in the app before you buy.

e&’s pages disagree on coverage (e&, 15 Oct 2026): “Valid across 170+ countries” on the roaming page, “200+ operators in more than 100 countries” in the Daily terms, “250+ operators in more than 130 countries” in the Weekly and Monthly terms. “Data usage is blocked in non-preferred roaming partners”, so look up your country, Armenia in particular, in e&’s preferred roaming partners list.

Business lines: calls on e&, data on an eSIM

For e& business roaming on a work trip, keep the e& line on for calls and put data on a separate data-only eSIM. Clients still reach your UAE number, but you pay AED 4.25 per incoming minute outside the Gulf and AED 0.808 in the GCC (e&, 15 Oct 2026).

Five 3-minute client calls are 15 incoming minutes: 15 × 4.25 = AED 63.75 outside the Gulf, or 15 × 0.808 = AED 12.12 in the GCC (our arithmetic). The prepaid Weekly Combo (AED 150.00) includes 300 minutes for calls you receive from anywhere and calls to the UAE. At AED 4.25, 35 incoming minutes already cost AED 148.75. Past about 35 incoming minutes a week outside the Gulf, the combo’s minutes pay for themselves.

A postpaid line has only the AED 250.00 Weekly Combo with 500 minutes, so its break-even is about 59 minutes (250 ÷ 4.25, our arithmetic). e&’s catalogue does not split those minutes into incoming and outgoing. Check the pack terms in the app.

Our 15 Oct 2026 check covered e&’s consumer prepaid and postpaid catalogues only. On a company contract, ask your account manager whether corporate roaming terms differ.

Our eSIMs are data-only. To keep your Etisalat number for calls, leave the UAE SIM in the phone. Keep your UAE SIM switched on for SMS; e& and Virgin Mobile don’t charge for SMS you receive abroad; calls you receive are charged per minute. Setup is in keep your UAE number.

When an e& pack is the better choice, and when a data eSIM is

An Etisalat roaming package is the better tool when you take many calls on your UAE number, go on Umrah, or have a Freedom plan with a large allowance. A data-only travel eSIM fits when you mostly need data, are on a prepaid line or stay longer than a week.

e& does not list a travel eSIM for trips abroad on its website (15 Oct 2026); its eSIM page covers an eSIM for your own e& number, and we did not check the e& app. One r/dubai poster on a week in the UK, February 2023: “I looked at their plans and it is quite expensive besides not that useful.” That is one person’s experience. For a UK trip, the UK SIM card guide compares a local SIM, e& packs and an eSIM.

Before you fly:

  • Your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line won’t use mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack (e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS).
  • Promo volumes end on 10 Jan 2027; check the volume on the day you buy.
  • Weekly and Monthly e& days start at first eligible use; an eSIM starts when it connects.
  • Look up your destination in e&’s preferred roaming partners list.

FAQ

How much is Etisalat roaming per day in AED?

AED 35.00 for 500MB, then 64 kbps, on prepaid and postpaid lines. The Daily Combo is AED 60.00 for 15 minutes and 3GB until 10 Jan 2027, a promotion e&’s own terms do not yet reflect (e&, 15 Oct 2026).

Which Etisalat roaming package suits a one-week trip, prepaid or postpaid?

On a prepaid line, Weekly Data is AED 100.00 for 4GB and 7 days (normally 2GB), and Weekly Combo is AED 150.00 for 7GB plus 300 + 30 minutes. A postpaid line has no data-only week; its Weekly Combo is AED 250.00 for 5GB and 500 minutes. All three volumes are e& promotions until 10 Jan 2027.

What is Etisalat Roam Like Home and which plans include it?

Roam Like Home uses your own plan’s data abroad for AED 100.00 a week or AED 350.00 a month, with fair use at 25GB and 40GB, then 128 Kbps. e&’s terms say it is “available only to Freedom Plan customers”.

What does an Etisalat roaming package cost per MB without a pack?

Data is blocked without a pack. Texting UBLOCK to 1010 unlocks pay-as-you-go for 24 hours, at about AED 33.00 per MB on postpaid and about AED 50.00 on prepaid outside the Gulf, and about AED 1.54 per MB in the Gulf (our arithmetic from e&’s per-30KB rates).

Can I keep my Etisalat number for calls while using an eSIM for data?

Yes. Our eSIMs are data-only, so your e& SIM stays on for calls and SMS. Calls you receive abroad are charged per minute, AED 0.808 in the GCC and AED 4.25 elsewhere, and e& does not charge for SMS you receive abroad.
