UK SIM card from the UAE: a British prepaid SIM, roaming or a data eSIM
Before you buy a UK SIM card, check Virgin Mobile UAE: its One Country pass makes UK data free on plans of 20GB and up. On e& prepaid, Weekly Data is AED 100.00 for 4GB over 7 days. A UK eSIM on
EE starts at AED 14.99 for 1GB and 7 days.

This guide is for UAE residents travelling abroad. We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here, and eSIM Go is not affiliated with e&, du or Virgin Mobile UAE.
Four ways to get data in the UK from the UAE
You can buy a UK prepaid SIM, add an e&, du or Virgin Mobile UAE roaming pack, use Virgin One Country free of charge, or install a data eSIM before you fly. UAE residents made 374,000 visits to the UK in 2024 and spent £1,641 a visit (ONS via VisitBritain, 15 Oct 2026).
| Option | Price | What you need | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| e& (Etisalat), du or Virgin Mobile roaming pack | AED 35.00 to AED 1,200.00 a pack from about AED 15.00 per GB | Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly | Costs more per GB than the eSIM |
| Pocket Wi-Fi router | Not verified | Collect it, keep it charged and return it | One connection for the group, only while you stay together |
| Local SIM bought on arrival | Not verified | A free SIM slot and a shop after landing | On a one-slot phone it replaces your UAE SIM |
| Travel eSIM from this site | from AED 14.99 by card; from AED 3.70 per GB | An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator | Most plans are data only; your UAE number is not on it |
Pack prices as listed by e&, du and Virgin Mobile on 15 Oct 2026; AED per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are in AED at the day’s rate: your card is charged exactly that amount.
Visiting friends and relatives took 37% of that spending, ahead of holidays (34%) and business (14%). Of those visitors, 34% were UK nationals and 38% Emiratis. These are official statistics “in development”.
Your e&, du or Virgin line won’t use mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack (e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS).
eSIM for the United Kingdom: most chosen plans
Your card is charged exactly AED 14.99; the charge is in UAE dirhams. The seller is registered outside the UAE, so some banks may still add a foreign-merchant fee — how card payment works.
What it costs per day
Plan price in AED ÷ days, at the rate of 16 Oct. A longer plan usually costs less per day: pick by your trip length, not by the lowest daily price.
A UK prepaid SIM: from a shop or ordered before you fly
Vodafone UK sells 30-day pay-as-you-go plans from £10 for 27GB, and
EE sells SIM only plans with “No contracts, no credit checks” (vodafone.co.uk, ee.co.uk, 15 Oct 2026). We have no data on whether either posts a SIM to the UAE, so a UK SIM ordered before travel may not reach you.
| Seller | Plan (30 days) | Data | Calls and texts |
|---|---|---|---|
| Vodafone UK | £10 | 27GB, then 8GB after 3 months | unlimited UK minutes and texts |
| Vodafone UK | £15 | 75GB, then 25GB after 3 months | unlimited UK minutes and texts |
| Vodafone UK | £20 | 150GB, then 50GB after 3 months | unlimited UK minutes and texts |
| EE Talk and Text | pay as you go | none listed | 40p a minute, 20p a text |
Sources: Vodafone UK and EE (15 Oct 2026). Vodafone’s extra-data offer ends 8 December 2026. We have no prices for giffgaff, Three or Lyca, so check their sites.
One r/dubai commenter (25 Feb 2023) wrote: “soon as you land in the uk you will find vending machines in the airport with sim cards that offer 10x the value of whatever roaming package you can buy from etisalat.” That is one person’s experience, and we could not confirm it.
A UK SIM in your only slot takes your UAE number off the phone, so calls and SMS to it stop arriving. Use a dual-SIM or eSIM phone to keep both lines.

e&, du and Virgin Mobile in the UK: a week and a month
UAE roaming for a week in the UK costs AED 100.00 on e& prepaid Weekly Data (4GB) or du postpaid (10GB), and a month costs AED 300.00 on Virgin (20GB) or nothing on One Country (as listed on 15 Oct 2026). All keep your UAE number.
| Pack | Line | Data · validity | AED | about AED per day |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| Virgin One Country | plans of 20GB+ | your plan’s data · 1 month | 0 | 0 |
| Virgin roaming pack | Virgin plan | 20GB · 30 days | 300 | 10.0 |
| e& Roaming Monthly Economy | prepaid + postpaid | 6GB until 10 Jan 2027 + 60 min · 30 days | 350 | 11.7 |
| e& Roaming Weekly Data | prepaid only | 4GB until 10 Jan 2027 · 7 days | 100 | 14.3 |
| du roaming data bundle | postpaid | 10GB · 7 days | 100 | 14.3 |
| Virgin roaming pack | Virgin plan | 2GB · 7 days | 100 | 14.3 |
| Virgin roaming pack | Virgin plan | 10GB · 7 days | 200 | 28.6 |
| du roaming data bundle | prepaid | 10GB · 7 days | 200 | 28.6 |

Virgin One Country is the one place the operator simply wins. The UK is on its list (34 countries on the page, 15 Oct 2026; Virgin rules, e&, du). You pick one country a month, and it does not renew: “Don’t forget to re-activate every month.”
An r/UAE poster (13 Aug 2026) titled a thread “Virgin Mobile UAE - I’ve been in the UK for 37 days with NO service and their support is trapped in a useless loop.” That is one person’s experience, but a second data line means one fault doesn’t cut you off.
A week in the United Kingdom: roaming pack vs eSIM
3.9× cheaper than prepaid packs Free on Virgin Mobile 20 GB+ plans5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it, and postpaid where it is lower.
On roaming your UAE number also takes calls and SMS; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s AED price, as listed on 15 Oct 2026; the eSIM at its AED price on 16 Oct, charged in AED by card. Work out your own trip.
Visiting family in the UK for a month
For a month, Virgin One Country, which is free, beats everything if you hold a 20GB plan. Without one, a UK eSIM or a Virgin pack at AED 300.00 covers 30 days; e& Economy is AED 350.00 for only 6GB.
| UK eSIM plan | Data · validity | Price |
|---|---|---|
| Data, EE 5G | 1GB · 7 days | AED 14.99 |
| Data, EE 5G | 20GB · 30 days | AED 73.99 (about AED 2.47 a day) |
| Unlimited, EE 4G, 1 Mbps after 3GB a day | 30 days | AED 244.99 |
Unlimited runs at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps. We promise no coverage; ask your host which network gets a signal indoors. See all UK eSIM plans; for a UK and Europe trip, see Europe eSIM plans.
Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay.
Pick by your line. On Virgin with 20GB+, use One Country. On e& or du, compare the 20GB eSIM price above with e& Economy at AED 350.00 for 6GB. Choose an operator pack when you want your UAE number to carry the calls.
Plans with minutes: when you need to call in the UK
Our UK plan with minutes is 10GB, 100 minutes and 100 SMS for 30 days at AED 74.99; the range runs to 50GB and 500 minutes on
EE 5G. The minutes are for calls within the UK (a taxi, a GP surgery), not for calls home. We do not promise a British number.
Calls on your UAE number are charged per minute. Receiving a call in the UK is AED 4.00 a minute on Virgin and AED 4.25 on e&; du postpaid lists AED 1.25, and its prepaid figures conflict, so check the du app (15 Oct 2026). Calling the UAE from the UK costs AED 9.00 to AED 9.50 a minute.
Keep your UAE SIM switched on for SMS; e& and Virgin don’t charge for SMS you receive abroad; calls you receive are charged per minute. Setup: keep your UAE number.
Our eSIMs are for use outside the UAE; they do not provide service in the UAE. If the eSIM has not connected to any network, you can get a refund within 30 days of purchase.
Check before you fly
What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in the United Kingdom?
Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.
The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your UAE line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.
The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats the United Kingdom as roaming for it.
The third is the APN. On this plan it sets itself, so leave it alone; you don’t need to type one.
The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find EE; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.
Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.ae with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)
For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, AED 14.99. For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, AED 19.99. If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, AED 77.99, with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.
I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your UAE number every day, roaming on your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line keeps them, and some packs include minutes (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.
FAQ
How do I get a UK SIM card in the UAE before I travel?
Vodafone UK lists its pay-as-you-go plans as “Available with eSIM” (15 Oct 2026). We have no data on UK sellers posting SIMs to the UAE or taking a UAE card. Check each seller’s delivery and payment pages before you pay. A UK eSIM from us is the alternative: it installs before you fly and connects when you land.
How much does a UK SIM cost?
Vodafone UK’s 30-day pay-as-you-go plans start at £10 for 27GB, with unlimited UK minutes and texts (vodafone.co.uk, 15 Oct 2026).

Yes: One Country is free on plans of 20GB and up, and the UK is on Virgin’s list (34 countries on the page, virginmobile.ae, 15 Oct 2026). You choose one country a month and re-activate it each month in the app.
Roaming, UK SIM or eSIM for a week?
For data only, e& prepaid Weekly Data is AED 100.00 for 4GB and du postpaid AED 100.00 for 10GB (15 Oct 2026); our UK eSIM prices are on the UK eSIM plans page. Choose roaming to keep calls on your UAE number, and an eSIM when data is enough.
