SIM card for Europe from the UAE: one plan for several countries

Old town rooftops and a train on a stone viaduct with a smartphone in the foreground

A Europe SIM card from the UAE comes down to three routes: a day pack on your UAE line (AED 35.00 for 500MB on e& and du, 15 Oct 2026), Orange Travel’s data-only eSIM for 39 countries (€23.99 for 20GB over 30 days, 16 Oct 2026), or one data eSIM for 41 countries from AED 18.99 for 1GB and 7 days. We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here, and eSIM Go is not affiliated with e&, du or Virgin Mobile UAE.

Data across Europe from the UAE: the options side by side

Five options give you a Europe SIM card or its equivalent, and one purchase covers anything from one country a month (Virgin One Country) to 41 destinations (our regional Europe plan). Your e&, du or Virgin line won’t use mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack (e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS).

Roam like at home is for EU SIMs, not your UAE line

The EU rule “roam like at home” applies to SIMs from EU and EEA operators, so your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line pays ordinary roaming at UAE rates in all 27 EU countries.

The EU portal Your Europe says the regime also covers Iceland, Liechtenstein and Norway, plus Moldova and Ukraine, and “Other countries are not covered by this regime” (16 Oct 2026). EU operators may apply a fair-use policy; the page puts their data surcharge cap at €1.30 per GB plus VAT for 2025 and €1 from 2027. A French or Italian prepaid SIM roams at home prices across the EU within those limits; a UAE line does not.

e&, du and Virgin Mobile in Europe: zones, One Country and the gaps

All 27 EU countries are in e&’s preferred zone and du’s zone A, and 26 of the 27 are in Virgin’s pack zone (as listed on 15 Oct 2026). A week costs AED 100.00 for 4GB on e& prepaid (4GB until 10 Jan 2027) and AED 100.00 for 10GB on du postpaid.

Virgin One Country is free on plans of 20GB and up, but it is one country a month. Its list has seven EU countries (France, Germany, Greece, Ireland, Italy, Romania, Spain) plus Norway, Switzerland and the UK (34 countries on the page, 15 Oct 2026). A Paris to Rome trip crosses two countries, and One Country covers only one of them. It never renews itself: “Don’t forget to re-activate every month.” See Virgin One Country.

Andorra is in du’s zone B only, where AED 200.00 buys 40MB for 7 days, and in none of Virgin’s lists. Latvia, Monaco and Moldova sit in Virgin’s out-zone: AED 120.00 for 20MB or AED 200.00 for 40MB over 7 days, and no calls.

du also sells its own Travel eSIM: Europe+ is about AED 69.78 (US$19) for 5GB and 30 days (du, 15 Oct 2026).

Keep your UAE SIM switched on for SMS; e& and Virgin don’t charge for SMS you receive abroad; calls you receive are charged per minute. du doesn’t publish a price for SMS you receive abroad.

A week in Europe: roaming pack vs eSIM

5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it, and postpaid where it is lower.

On roaming your UAE number also takes calls and SMS; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s AED price, as listed on 15 Oct 2026; the eSIM at its AED price on 17 Oct, charged in AED by card. Work out your own trip.

Local SIMs and operator eSIMs in Europe: Orange, TIM, Vodafone

Orange Travel sells a Europe eSIM online before you fly: 20GB for 30 days data-only is €23.99, and 20GB for 14 days with calls and SMS is €24.99 (16 Oct 2026). It lists 39 countries, including Andorra, Monaco and the Vatican, but not Turkey, Georgia, Ukraine, Serbia or Albania.

Orange’s Holiday Europe SIM, sold in Orange and airport Relay stores in France, must be registered in your name. One Orange page says “within 30 days of your arrival”, while its FAQ says “During these 14 days, you must identify yourself at Orange.fr”, so register on day one.

Vodafone Spain sells a DataOnly eSIM from €4 for 2GB and 3 days to €42 for 140GB and 30 days; it “will start when you arrive in Spain”. We could not confirm which other countries it covers.

TIM Tourist in Italy costs €14.99 for 30 days and 200GB, plus €10 for the SIM. Only 23GB of the 200GB also work in other EU countries. On a Rome, Nice and Barcelona trip, those 23GB cover both countries outside Italy. It is sold at TIM stores; check which ID TIM asks for.

In Germany every prepaid SIM is activated only after an ID check; tourists show their passport in a shop or by video (TKG §172). We could not confirm whether a UAE passport works for video identification. Country guides: Italy, France, Germany.

One plan for a multi-country route: what to check

Check every stop against the 41-destination list of our regional Europe plan, one data eSIM from 500MB for 3 days to 100GB for 180 days. It includes the UK, Switzerland, Norway, Iceland, Turkey, Georgia, Ukraine, Serbia and Albania; in the UK, Switzerland, Turkey, Georgia, Serbia and Albania even an EU SIM pays roaming.

Data10GB · 30-day planAED 70.99
Unlimited, 5GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps10 daysAED 129.99 (about AED 13.00 a day)

Unlimited data in Europe comes in 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30-day plans, at full speed up to 5GB a day, then 1 Mbps. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay.

Before you pay, open the country list on the Europe eSIM plans page and tick every stop of a Schengen route, say Paris, Zurich and Rome. Andorra, Monaco and the Vatican are not on the list. The days count from your first connection. UK and Europe trips use the same page; for the UK alone see the UK SIM card guide, for Turkey the Turkey SIM card guide.

Our Europe eSIM is data-only, so your UAE SIM stays in the phone for calls and SMS (keep your UAE number). They do not provide service in the UAE. If the eSIM has not connected to any network, you can get a refund within 30 days of purchase.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Europe?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your UAE line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Europe as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add internet on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find a partner network; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.ae with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, AED 18.99. For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, AED 44.99. If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, AED 104.99, with 5 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your UAE number every day, roaming on your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line keeps them, and some packs include minutes (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Does a Europe eSIM also cover the UK and Switzerland?

Yes. Our Europe SIM card plan lists the United Kingdom and Switzerland among its 41 destinations, with Norway, Iceland, Turkey, Georgia and Ukraine. Check the country list on the plan page before you pay.

Is it worth getting an eSIM for a Schengen trip?

For a route through two or more countries, one regional eSIM covers every stop on its list with one purchase. Virgin One Country covers one country a month, and TIM Tourist shares only 23GB of its 200GB outside Italy. Orange Travel’s eSIM also covers 39 countries, priced in euros.

Europe eSIM vs du postpaid Europe roaming

du lists postpaid 10GB for 7 days at AED 100.00 in zone A, which includes all 27 EU countries; on du prepaid the same bundle is AED 200.00 (du, 15 Oct 2026). It keeps your UAE number for calls. Our Europe eSIM is data-only; its prices are on the Europe eSIM plans page.

Is there an unlimited data eSIM for Europe?

Yes: our Europe plan has unlimited data for 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days, at full speed up to 5GB a day, then 1 Mbps. On a roaming line, du postpaid unlimited is AED 200.00 for 7 days, and du publishes no fair-use figure for it (15 Oct 2026).
