Switzerland SIM card from the UAE: Swisscom, Salt, roaming or eSIM
For up to a week, the simplest Switzerland SIM card from the UAE is a data eSIM on Sunrise: 1GB for 7 days is AED 10.99 (Switzerland eSIM plans). For longer stays with Swiss calls, Swisscom’s Prepaid Flat runs from CHF 20 for 7 days to CHF 150 for 90 days (Swisscom, 19 Oct 2026). On Virgin Mobile plans of 20GB and up, One Country covers Switzerland at AED 0.00. We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here; eSIM Go is not affiliated with Swisscom, Salt, e&, du or Virgin Mobile UAE.

Which Swiss SIM card makes sense for a trip from the UAE?
Three routes work: a Switzerland SIM card from Swisscom or Salt, a roaming pack on your UAE line, or a data eSIM installed at home. Your e&, du or Virgin line won’t use mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack (e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS).
| Option | Price | What you need | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| e& (Etisalat), du or Virgin Mobile roaming pack | AED 35.00 to AED 1,200.00 a pack from about AED 15.00 per GB | Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly | Costs more per GB than the eSIM |
| Pocket Wi-Fi router | Not verified | Collect it, keep it charged and return it | One connection for the group, only while you stay together |
| Local SIM bought on arrival | Not verified | A free SIM slot and a shop after landing | On a one-slot phone it replaces your UAE SIM |
| Travel eSIM from this site | from AED 10.99 by card; from AED 4.65 per GB | An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator | Data only: no calls or SMS on your UAE number |
Pack prices as listed by e&, du and Virgin Mobile on 19 Oct 2026; AED per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are in AED at the day’s rate: your card is charged exactly that amount.
The choice turns on three questions. Do you need a Swiss number for calls? Do you stay longer than a week? Will you cross into Italy, France or Germany? A “yes” to the first two points to a local SIM; a “yes” to the third points away from one.
eSIM for Switzerland: most chosen plans
Your card is charged exactly AED 10.99; the charge is in UAE dirhams. The seller is registered outside the UAE, so some banks may still add a foreign-merchant fee — how card payment works.
What it costs per day
Plan price in AED ÷ days, at the rate of 20 Oct. A longer plan usually costs less per day: pick by your trip length, not by the lowest daily price.
What does Swisscom’s Prepaid Flat cost, and can it start before you land?
Swisscom’s Prepaid Flat costs CHF 20 for 7 days and CHF 150 for 90 days, with data at up to 50 Mbit/s and unlimited calls inside Switzerland (Swisscom, 19 Oct 2026). You can buy it before the trip; the days start at activation, not at purchase.
| Prepaid Flat | Price | about CHF per day |
|---|---|---|
| 7 days | CHF 20 | 2.86 |
| 15 days | CHF 40 | 2.67 |
| 30 days | CHF 65 | 2.17 |
| 90 days | CHF 150 | 1.67 |

Each plan gives “Unlimited surfing in Switzerland (50 Mbit/s download)”, unlimited calls within Switzerland and unlimited texting in Switzerland and abroad. Activation is free (“worth 19.90”), and Swisscom assigns you a Swiss number. The card can wait for your next trip, but not for long: “After 12 months of non-use, the SIM card will become invalid.”
The catch is the start. The physical SIM “can only be purchased in a Swisscom shop”, at major railway stations and Zurich Airport. The eSIM needs a My Swisscom login whose two-factor step “requires a Swiss phone number”, and Swisscom warns: “There may be situations where the eSIM cannot be activated before you arrive in Switzerland.” A data eSIM from us installs in the UAE and connects when you land.
Swiss law adds a second step. Under VUEPF Art. 20a, every new mobile line, prepaid included, needs a valid passport or ID card shown in original, and the seller keeps an electronic copy (fedlex.admin.ch, rule in force since 1 Jan 2024). Our eSIM asks for no ID check.

Salt PrePay: what it costs and where it works
Salt PrePay is a free Switzerland SIM card with CHF 10 credit, and its Data Packs last 30 days: 1GB at CHF 9.95, 5GB at CHF 14.95, 25GB at CHF 29.95 (Salt, 19 Oct 2026). “Unlimited Surf” is CHF 1.99 a day.
| Salt Data Pack, 30 days | Price | about CHF per GB |
|---|---|---|
| 1GB | CHF 9.95 | 9.95 |
| 5GB | CHF 14.95 | 2.99 |
| 25GB | CHF 29.95 | 1.20 |

Salt says the packs are “valid in Switzerland only”, so they stop at the border. Salt says you can buy it “anywhere”, for example at tobacconists, large supermarkets and phone shops, and the same passport rule applies. PrePay is not a tourist plan, and we could not confirm a prepaid eSIM or airport sales.
How much is a week in Switzerland on e&, du or Virgin Mobile?
A week in Switzerland is AED 100.00 on all three UAE operators: 4GB on e& prepaid, 10GB on du postpaid or 2GB on Virgin (15 Oct 2026). Switzerland sits in e&’s preferred zone, du’s zone A and Virgin’s pack zone.
| Pack | Line | Data · days | AED | about AED per GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| e& Roaming Weekly Data | prepaid | 4GB until 10 Jan 2027 · 7 | 100.00 | 25.0 |
| du roaming data bundle | postpaid | 10GB · 7 | 100.00 | 10.0 |
| du roaming data bundle | prepaid | 10GB · 7 | 200.00 | 20.0 |
| Virgin roaming pack | Virgin plan | 2GB · 7 | 100.00 | 50.0 |

On Virgin plans of 20GB and up, Switzerland costs AED 0.00 through Virgin One Country, which uses your plan’s data. It does not renew on its own: “Don’t forget to re-activate every month.” du also sells a Travel eSIM for Switzerland: about AED 12.85 (US$3.5) for 1GB and 7 days (du, 15 Oct 2026).
Our 1GB to 20GB plans for Switzerland list Sunrise as the local network; 10GB for 30 days is AED 68.99. Unlimited data for 7 days is AED 55.99 (about AED 8.00 a day), at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps. Each plan’s price in AED is on our Switzerland page, and a top-up goes on the same eSIM with no new QR code. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay.
A week in Switzerland: roaming pack vs eSIM
3.9× cheaper than prepaid packs Free on Virgin Mobile 20 GB+ plans5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it, and postpaid where it is lower.
On roaming your UAE number also takes calls and SMS; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s AED price, as listed on 19 Oct 2026; the eSIM at its AED price on 20 Oct, charged in AED by card. Work out your own trip.
Switzerland plus Italy, France or Germany: one plan or two?
For a route that crosses the border, one Europe regional plan is simpler than a Swiss SIM: Salt’s Data Packs are “valid in Switzerland only”, and Swisscom sells “Unlimited surfing in Switzerland”. Our Europe plan covers Switzerland among its 41 destinations, so one eSIM covers both legs of a Zurich to Milan trip.
The EU “roam like at home” rule does not fix this. The EU portal lists the EU, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Norway, Moldova and Ukraine; Switzerland is not named (europa.eu, 16 Oct 2026). So an Italian or French SIM bought for the next leg gets no Swiss data by right; the portal adds that “many operators choose to extend these offers”, so check that operator’s terms. Your e&, du or Virgin line pays UAE roaming rates in both countries.
See the Europe eSIM plans, the Europe SIM card guide and, for the Italian leg, the Italy guide.
When is a Swiss prepaid SIM the better buy?
A Switzerland SIM card from Swisscom wins on a stay of 30 to 90 days with Swiss calls. Prepaid Flat 30 is CHF 65 (about CHF 2.17 a day) and Prepaid Flat 90 is CHF 150 (Swisscom, 19 Oct 2026). Our eSIM wins on trips up to a week, on routes across the border, and when you cannot receive a Swiss text before you land.
Our eSIMs are data-only and do not provide service in the UAE, so keep your UAE SIM in the phone for calls and SMS; see keep your UAE number. Calls you receive on it abroad are charged per minute. Install before you fly; it connects when you land in Switzerland.
Check before you fly
What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Switzerland?
Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.
The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your UAE line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.
The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Switzerland as roaming for it.
The third is the APN. On this plan it sets itself, so leave it alone; you don’t need to type one.
The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Sunrise; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.
Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.ae with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)
For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, AED 10.99. For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, AED 25.99. If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, AED 55.99, with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.
I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your UAE number every day, roaming on your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line keeps them, and some packs include minutes (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.
FAQ
Do I need a passport to buy a SIM in Switzerland?
Yes. Swiss rules (VUEPF Art. 20a, in force since 1 Jan 2024) require a valid passport or ID card shown in original for every new mobile line, prepaid included, and the seller keeps an electronic copy. Our data eSIM asks for no ID check.
Can I buy a Swisscom SIM before I fly?
Not reliably. Swisscom says the prepaid subscription “can be purchased before your trip” and the days start at activation (19 Oct 2026). But the physical SIM is sold only in a Swisscom shop, and the eSIM needs a My Swisscom login with a Swiss number for two-factor authentication.
Is Switzerland in Virgin One Country?
Yes. Switzerland is one of the 34 countries on Virgin’s One Country page (15 Oct 2026), free on Virgin plans of 20GB and up and using your plan data. It covers one country a month and does not renew on its own.
Is there an unlimited eSIM for Switzerland?
Yes, with a daily cap: 7 days is AED 55.99 (about AED 8.00 a day), at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps. It is data-only. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee.
