Which Spain SIM card fits a trip from the UAE?

Three questions decide it: how many days you stay, whether you need a Spanish number for calls, and whether you can show ID at a shop counter. Orange’s Holiday card fits 15 to 28 days with calls. A week of data with no paperwork fits an eSIM installed before you fly, or a roaming pack on your UAE line.

OptionPriceWhat you needWeak point
e& (Etisalat), du or Virgin Mobile roaming pack AED 35.00 to AED 1,200.00 a pack
from about AED 15.00 per GB
Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly Costs more per GB than the eSIM
Pocket Wi-Fi router Not verified Collect it, keep it charged and return it One connection for the group, only while you stay together
Local SIM bought on arrival Not verified A free SIM slot and a shop after landing On a one-slot phone it replaces your UAE SIM
Travel eSIM from this site from AED 10.99 by card; from AED 2.80 per GB An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator Data only: no calls or SMS on your UAE number

Pack prices as listed by e&, du and Virgin Mobile on 19 Oct 2026; AED per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are in AED at the day’s rate: your card is charged exactly that amount.

Landing with no plan leaves you without mobile data. Your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line won’t use mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack (e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS).

What do Orange Holiday Maxi and Mini give for €35 and €25?

Orange Holiday Maxi costs €35 for 28 days and Holiday Mini €25 for 15 days, VAT included (Orange, 19 Oct 2026). Both carry “GB ilimitados” (unlimited data), which Orange says run at top speed on 5G for the whole period, plus 100 minutes of calls from Spain to Spanish and international numbers. Only Maxi lists an eSIM: “Now available in eSIM”.

Our arithmetic: Maxi is €1.25 a day and Mini about €1.67 a day, so the 28-day card costs less per day. In EU roaming, which Orange extends to Gibraltar, Iceland, Liechtenstein, Moldova, Norway and Ukraine, Maxi gives up to 52.6GB and Mini 37.6GB, and the minutes work there too. A card expires three months after its last top-up or use of balance.

Orange’s regular prepaid starts at €10 for 28 days. It is a different product, and its gigabyte volumes sit under an autumn promo, so we do not quote them. Orange charges in euros; we show its prices as published, with no price in AED.

Orange’s English page sends buyers to its shops through a “Search for my store” link. We could not confirm a counter at the airport, an eSIM for Holiday Mini, or which document Orange asks for, so plan on an Orange shop after you land, passport in hand.

Spanish law, Ley 25/2007, obliges operators to keep a register of every prepaid SIM buyer: name, surname, nationality and the number of the ID document used (BOE, 19 Oct 2026). For a visitor from the UAE, that document is normally the passport. Our Spain eSIM runs on the same Orange network and has no ID check, so the difference between the two is minutes, a Spanish number and the register, not the network.

Three ways to get online in Spain: a local SIM, a roaming pack on your UAE line or a data eSIM

How much data does a week in Spain buy on e&, du or Virgin Mobile?

A week of roaming data in Spain costs AED 100.00 on each of the three UAE operators, and only the volume differs: 4GB on e& prepaid (until 10 Jan 2027, normally 2GB), 10GB on du postpaid, 2GB on Virgin. Spain is in e&’s preferred zone, du’s zone A and Virgin’s pack zone (e&, 19 Oct 2026; du, 19 Oct 2026; Virgin Mobile, 19 Oct 2026).

For a Virgin customer on a plan of 20GB or more, Spain costs AED 0.00: Virgin’s One Country list of 34 includes it (15 Oct 2026), and the pass uses your plan’s data for a calendar month. It does not renew; Virgin’s page says “Don’t forget to re-activate every month.”

du sells its own travel eSIM for Spain at about AED 12.85 (US$3.5) for 1GB over 7 days (du, 15 Oct 2026).

Our Spain eSIM runs on a local network, Orange 5G. Unlimited data is AED 59.99 for 7 days (about AED 8.57 a day), at full speed up to 5GB a day, then 1 Mbps, and 10GB for 30 days is AED 37.99. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay. How the daily limit works on our unlimited plans: eSIM unlimited.

Install our eSIM before you fly; it connects when you land in Spain, and its days count from then. A top-up adds data to the same eSIM with no new QR code. The plan is data-only, so calls and SMS stay on your UAE SIM (keep your UAE number), and it does not provide service in the UAE. Keep your UAE SIM switched on for SMS; e& and Virgin don’t charge for SMS you receive abroad; calls you receive are charged per minute.

A week in Spain: roaming pack vs eSIM

Virgin Mobile One Countryplans of 20 GB or more · your plan’s data · one country a month Free

On roaming your UAE number also takes calls and SMS; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s AED price, as listed on 19 Oct 2026; the eSIM at its AED price on 20 Oct, charged in AED by card. Work out your own trip.

When does an Orange Holiday SIM beat a data eSIM in Spain?

A Spain SIM card from Orange’s Holiday range is the better buy for 15 to 28 days with calls inside Spain and abroad, or for a trip that continues across the EU, where Holiday Maxi carries up to 52.6GB (Orange, 19 Oct 2026). Orange says Maxi’s data runs at top speed for all 28 days. Our unlimited plan slows to 1 Mbps after 5GB in a day, so a heavy user on a month-long stay is better served by the card.

For a week, our eSIM is the simpler buy: no shop visit, no entry in the ID register, and it connects when you land.

Spain has its own data-only eSIM for visitors; the smallest size is 2GB for 3 days at €4 (Vodafone Spain, 16 Oct 2026). Its full table of sizes is in the local SIM block of the Spain eSIM plans page. We could not confirm which documents Vodafone asks for.

The EU’s “roam like at home” rule covers SIMs from EU and EEA operators (Your Europe, 16 Oct 2026). Your UAE line pays UAE roaming rates in Spain, as in the rest of Europe; the Europe SIM card guide explains the rule. For Spain and France on one trip, a regional plan for Europe puts both on one eSIM: check every stop on Europe eSIM plans, and compare French cards in the France SIM card guide.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Spain?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your UAE line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Spain as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. On this plan it sets itself, so leave it alone; you don’t need to type one.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Orange; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.ae with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, AED 10.99. For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, AED 19.99. If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, AED 59.99, with 5 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your UAE number every day, roaming on your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line keeps them, and some packs include minutes (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Can I buy an Orange Holiday SIM before I land in Spain?

We could not confirm it. Only Holiday Maxi lists an eSIM (“Now available in eSIM”, Orange, 19 Oct 2026), and Orange’s site points buyers to its shops with “Search for my store”. We could not confirm sale at the airport either, so plan on a shop visit in Spain with your passport.

Do I need a passport for a Spanish SIM?

Expect to show your passport or another ID document. Under Spanish law (Ley 25/2007), every prepaid Spain SIM card is registered to an ID document: the buyer’s name, nationality and document number. Our Spain eSIM has no ID check.

Is Spain in Virgin One Country?

Yes. Virgin’s list of 34 countries includes Spain (Virgin Mobile UAE, 15 Oct 2026), and the pass is AED 0.00 on plans of 20GB and up, for one country per calendar month. It uses your plan’s data and does not renew by itself.

Is there an unlimited eSIM for Spain?

Yes: our 7-day Spain plan is AED 59.99, at full speed up to 5GB a day, then 1 Mbps. It is data-only, so your UAE SIM keeps calls. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee.

Will my UAE SIM use data in Spain without a pack?

No. Your e&, du or Virgin line won’t use mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack. e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS.
