Unlimited data eSIM: what ‘unlimited’ really means abroad
An eSIM unlimited data plan runs at full speed up to a daily amount, then slows to 1 Mbps. The amount is 3GB a day on most of our single-country plans and 5GB in Thailand, the USA, Italy and Spain. Six destinations in our catalogue have no single-country unlimited plan or only a short one. A 7-day plan at 3GB a day costs AED 104.99 for Pakistan and AED 104.99 for Saudi Arabia. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee.
What ‘unlimited’ means on a travel eSIM
On a travel eSIM, unlimited data means no total data cap, not no speed limit. Every eSIM unlimited data plan we sell carries a daily fair-use limit, and past it your speed falls to 1 Mbps for the rest of the day.
Hotspot use counts against your plan’s data. On unlimited plans it counts toward the same daily limit.
One r/Umrah commenter wrote (6 Aug 2025): “every day the first 3GB of data are high speeed [sic] then its slows down”, but “im not feeling slow speeds”. That is one person’s experience.
Daily fair use: 3GB or 5GB at full speed, then 1 Mbps
Use the figure on your country’s plan page: 3GB a day on most plans, 5GB in Thailand, the USA, Italy and Spain, then 1 Mbps.
Over a week that is up to 21GB at full speed on a 3GB plan and 35GB on a 5GB plan. The table sets our 7-day unlimited data eSIM plans against du’s bundle.
| 7-day unlimited | Price | Per day (our arithmetic) | Full-speed limit |
|---|---|---|---|
| du postpaid unlimited bundle | AED 200.00 | AED 28.57 | not published in du’s listing |
| Our Pakistan plan | AED 104.99 | AED 15.00 | 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps |
| Our Saudi Arabia plan | AED 104.99 | AED 15.00 | 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps |
du: postpaid, zone A, du.ae (15 Oct 2026). We could not confirm a daily limit for du’s bundle, so check du’s fair-use terms in the du app. See du roaming. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay.
Where there is no unlimited plan, or only a short one
Three destinations have no single-country unlimited plan: Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Georgia. Egypt, Nepal and Bahrain stop at 10 days, and the UK’s unlimited plan runs on
EE 4G. For a visit home to Sri Lanka, the Sri Lanka SIM card guide compares fixed-size plans with
Dialog and Mobitel tourist SIMs.
| Destination | Unlimited | Fixed-GB plans |
|---|---|---|
| Sri Lanka | none | 1–20GB |
| Maldives | none | 1–20GB |
| Georgia | none single-country; via the Europe regional plan | 1–20GB |
| Egypt | 3, 5, 10 days only | 1–20GB |
| Nepal | 3, 5, 7, 10 days | 1–10GB, no 20GB |
| Bahrain | 3, 5, 7, 10 days | 1–20GB |
| United Kingdom | 3–30 days, on EE 4G | 1–20GB on EE 5G |
Catalogue snapshot, 15 Oct 2026. For a month in Nepal, Sri Lanka or Egypt there is no 30-day unlimited plan: buy two packs or top up. The unlimited plans for Turkey, Qatar and Kyrgyzstan cannot be topped up, so buy a new plan when the days run out.
One r/Egypt commenter wrote (17 Mar 2025): “There’s no unlimited data in Egypt to begin with.” That is one person’s experience. Our Egypt plans do include unlimited, but only for 3, 5 or 10 days; the Egypt SIM card guide sets them against the local tourist lines.
Unlimited or a fixed-GB plan: who needs which
Pick an eSIM unlimited data plan when you use more each day than a fixed plan gives you and your trip fits the country’s unlimited lengths. Pick a fixed-GB plan when the country has no unlimited plan, the stay is longer than its unlimited maximum, or you mostly use Wi-Fi.
Our data calculator puts maps and messaging at about 0.3GB a day and video calls at about 1.7GB a day. These are our estimates, not measurements. For 30 days in Pakistan, 10GB costs AED 66.99 (about AED 2.23 a day) and unlimited costs AED 269.99 (about AED 9.00 a day). 10GB over 30 days is about 0.33GB a day (our arithmetic), enough for maps and messaging. If you video-call home every day, take the unlimited plan, with full speed up to 3GB a day. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee.
For Umrah, our Saudi Arabia plans include unlimited for 1, 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 and 30 days at 3GB a day, plus 25GB for 45 days, about 0.56GB a day (our arithmetic). If you need lots of calls home, your e& or du Umrah pack is hard to beat; see Umrah roaming.
FAQ
Are eSIMs unlimited data?
Some are. Most of our single-country unlimited plans run at full speed up to 3GB a day (5GB in Thailand, the USA, Italy and Spain), then slow to 1 Mbps. Sri Lanka, the Maldives and Georgia have no single-country unlimited plan (15 Oct 2026).
What does fair use mean on an unlimited eSIM?
It is a daily limit on full-speed data. After 3GB in one day on most plans, or 5GB in Thailand, the USA, Italy and Spain, speed drops to 1 Mbps. Hotspot use counts toward the same limit. Check the figure on your country’s plan page.
Which countries have no unlimited eSIM plan?
Sri Lanka and the Maldives have none, and Georgia has none as a single-country plan. Egypt offers 3, 5 and 10 days, Nepal 3 to 10 days and Bahrain 3 to 10 days (15 Oct 2026).
Is an unlimited eSIM worth it for a week?
It is when you use more each day than a fixed plan gives you, such as daily video calls. On a 3GB daily limit, 7 days give up to 21GB at full speed. If you mostly use Wi-Fi, a 1GB plan for 7 days costs less.
Is du’s unlimited roaming bundle the same as an unlimited eSIM?
We could not confirm it. du lists a postpaid unlimited bundle at AED 200.00 for 7 days (du, 15 Oct 2026) but publishes no daily speed limit in that listing. Check du’s fair-use terms in the du app before you buy.
