Which Mauritius SIM should you sort out before flying from the UAE?
Choose by trip length, calls and paperwork. Up to 10 days of maps and messages fits a data eSIM or roaming packs on your UAE line. Two to four weeks, or calls inside Mauritius, fits a Mauritius SIM card or eSIM from my.t or Emtel. It costs €30 for 30 days and needs your passport and a stay address.
| Option | Price | What you need | Weak point |
|---|---|---|---|
| e& (Etisalat), du or Virgin Mobile roaming pack | AED 35.00 to AED 1,200.00 a pack from about AED 15.00 per GB | Roaming switched on and a pack bought before you fly | Data is fixed per pack; check that the pack covers Mauritius |
| Pocket Wi-Fi router | Not verified | Collect it, keep it charged and return it | One connection for the group, only while you stay together |
| Local SIM bought on arrival | Not verified | A free SIM slot and a shop after landing | On a one-slot phone it replaces your UAE SIM |
| Travel eSIM from this site | from AED 29.99 by card; from AED 16.00 per GB | An eSIM phone that is not locked to one operator | Data only: no calls or SMS on your UAE number |
Pack prices as listed by e&, du and Virgin Mobile on 19 Oct 2026; AED per GB is our derivation (price ÷ GB). eSIM prices are in AED at the day’s rate: your card is charged exactly that amount.
Three filters rule a route out before price does. The tourist packs are sold only to adults aged 18 or over. A phone without eSIM support leaves you the physical tourist SIM or roaming. Only a tourist pack gives you a Mauritian number for local calls; our plan is data-only.
Landing with no plan means no mobile data. Your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line won’t use mobile data abroad until you add a roaming pack. Only e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data, for 24 hours by SMS.
eSIM for Mauritius: most chosen plans
Your card is charged exactly AED 29.99; the charge is in UAE dirhams. The seller is registered outside the UAE, so some banks may still add a foreign-merchant fee — how card payment works.
What it costs per day
Plan price in AED ÷ days, at the rate of 20 Oct. A longer plan usually costs less per day: pick by your trip length, not by the lowest daily price.
my.t or Emtel: what does the €30 tourist pack include?
Both operators sell the same headline offer: €30 with VAT for 30 days, “Unlimited 5G” data, unlimited local SMS and MUR 200 of airtime (my.t, Emtel, 19 Oct 2026). Each is open to anyone aged 18 or over visiting Mauritius for leisure or business.
The difference is when the eSIM reaches you. Emtel’s pre-booking runs “Your Details”, “Scan Passport”, “Review & Pay”. For an eSIM, “your QR code will be sent to your registered email address before your arrival”; a physical SIM waits at the Emtel counter at the airport.
At my.t you pre-book with your name, passport number and arrival date. Then you “Pick up and activate your SIM/eSIM at the Telecom Airport counter or any Telecom Shop”. The “myt Digital Kiosk at SSR International Airport” serves eSIM buyers only.
my.t’s card says the pack runs “On myt mobile network”, Mauritius Telecom’s local network, and its MUR 200 of airtime covers “local and/or international calls”. my.t links a “Fair usage policy” next to the offer. Neither page we read gives a daily full-speed limit, so check it before you plan 30 days of video. Neither says what happens after day 30, or whether the pack works outside Mauritius.

What do e&, du and Virgin Mobile charge for a week in Mauritius?
The lowest week price on a UAE line is du postpaid’s: 5GB for 7 days at AED 70.00. At AED 100.00 a week, e& prepaid gives 4GB (until 10 Jan 2027, normally 2GB), du postpaid 10GB and Virgin 2GB. Mauritius sits in e&’s preferred zone, du’s zone A and Virgin’s pack zone, and each operator charges one price across its zone (e&, 19 Oct 2026; du, 19 Oct 2026; Virgin Mobile, 19 Oct 2026).
du’s API marks its postpaid data bundles as active from purchase, while its FAQ says data bundles start during travel. Buy it shortly before you fly and check the activation note in the du app.
Virgin’s One Country pass does not help here. Mauritius is not among the 34 countries on Virgin’s list (15 Oct 2026), so a 20GB plan does not make it free. du’s travel eSIM store has no separate plan for Mauritius (15 Oct 2026).
Our Mauritius plans, with each price in AED: 10GB for 30 days is AED 159.99. Unlimited data for 10 days is AED 159.99 (about AED 16.00 a day), at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay.
Set it up in the UAE before the flight. The days start at its first connection in Mauritius, not at purchase. It carries data only, so keep your UAE SIM switched on for calls and SMS (keep your UAE number). e& and Virgin don’t charge for SMS you receive abroad, and calls you receive are charged per minute.
On Android you type the APN in by hand (APN settings); an iPhone sets it on its own. Our eSIM does not provide service in the UAE. A top-up goes on the same eSIM with no new QR code.
A week in Mauritius: roaming pack vs eSIM
About the same as prepaid packs du postpaid pack is cheaper5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it, and postpaid where it is lower.
On roaming your UAE number also takes calls and SMS; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s AED price, as listed on 19 Oct 2026; the eSIM at its AED price on 20 Oct, charged in AED by card. Work out your own trip.
What does ICTA ask for, and can a hotel sell you a SIM?
ICTA’s Telecommunication Directive 1 of 2025 has applied since 1 April 2025 (ICTA, 19 Oct 2026). It makes the operator ask a tourist for “his passport or any other valid travel document” and “his address of stay in Mauritius”. Have both ready: the passport and the full address of your hotel or rental.
A hotel may sell you one. Hotels and tourist businesses licensed by the Tourism Authority may act as authorised agents, and “the SIM shall be registered in the name of the tourist”. A SIM handed over at reception is registered to you, not to the hotel.
Operators may not sell a pre-activated SIM card or sell a SIM to anyone under 18. Every operator must also give tourists a separate numbering plan.
ICTA’s FAQ still describes the 2023 rules, with proof of address and a photograph. Those regulations were revoked in January 2025, so we follow only the 2025 directive. Our plan has no ID check when you buy it.
When is a local tourist eSIM the better buy in Mauritius?
A my.t or Emtel pack wins on a stay of two to four weeks. €30 buys 30 days of data the operators call unlimited, MUR 200 of airtime and a local number, which our data-only eSIM cannot give you. Our arithmetic: that is €1.00 a day, against AED 10.00 a day for du’s 5GB week.
Our eSIM wins for a week up to 10 days. You install it in the UAE with no passport scan and no pre-booking, and it connects when you land. Its unlimited plan stops at 10 days, so a longer stay with heavy video favours a Mauritius SIM card from my.t or Emtel.

Check before you fly
What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Mauritius?
Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.
The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your UAE line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.
The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Mauritius as roaming for it.
The third is the APN. The plan does not set it by itself here: add e-ideas on Android under the eSIM line’s mobile network settings.
The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find Emtel; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.
Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.ae with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.
What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)
For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, AED 29.99. For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, AED 96.99. If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 10 days, AED 159.99, with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.
I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your UAE number every day, roaming on your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line keeps them, and some packs include minutes (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.
FAQ
Can I buy a tourist SIM at the hotel in Mauritius?
Possibly. ICTA’s Directive 1 of 2025 lets hotels and tourist businesses licensed by the Tourism Authority act as authorised agents, and the SIM must be registered in the tourist’s name (ICTA, 19 Oct 2026). my.t lists partner hotels among its sales points (my.t, 19 Oct 2026). Ask your hotel before you land.
Do I need a passport for a Mauritius SIM card?
Yes. ICTA says the operator asks a tourist for “his passport or any other valid travel document” and an address of stay in Mauritius (ICTA, 19 Oct 2026). my.t and Emtel sell their tourist packs only to adults aged 18 or over. Our data eSIM has no ID check.
Does my UAE roaming cover Mauritius?
Yes, once you add a pack. du postpaid lists 5GB for 7 days at AED 70.00; a week costs AED 100.00 for 4GB on e& prepaid (until 10 Jan 2027), 10GB on du postpaid or 2GB on Virgin (15 Oct 2026). Mauritius is not on Virgin’s One Country list, so a 20GB plan does not make it free.
Is there an unlimited eSIM for Mauritius?
Yes, for 10 days at most: our plan runs at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps. For 30 days, my.t and Emtel sell a €30 tourist eSIM with data they call unlimited, and my.t links a fair usage policy to it (my.t, Emtel, 19 Oct 2026).
Do I need a local SIM in Mauritius?
Not for data on a short trip: a data eSIM installed in the UAE connects when you land. A my.t or Emtel tourist pack adds a Mauritian number and MUR 200 of airtime for calls (my.t, Emtel, 19 Oct 2026). Our eSIM is data-only, so your UAE number stays on your main SIM.
