How to get mobile data in Kazakhstan from the UAE: a data eSIM on Kcell 5G, installed before you fly, at AED 14.99 for 1GB and 7 days (Kazakhstan eSIM plans), or the 5GB week du postpaid lists at AED 70.00 (19 Oct 2026). A Kazakhstan SIM card comes on a monthly plan, Beeline’s from 7,999 tenge (beeline.kz, 19 Oct 2026), and the phone must be registered.

Is there a tourist SIM in Kazakhstan for visitors from the UAE?

No. Beeline’s tariff page shows no plan for tourists or foreigners, and activ’s list runs from TOP S to XL, TOP UNLIM, family, kids, student and social plans (beeline.kz, activ.kz, 19 Oct 2026). We found no official page listing the documents a visitor needs, so ask at the counter before you pay.

Kazakhstan’s SafeTravel portal for visitors names three operators with points of sale: Altel, Beeline and Kcell (safetravel.kz, 19 Oct 2026). Kcell, the company behind activ, is also the local network our eSIM runs on. Tele2 is missing from the SafeTravel list.

What do Beeline and activ charge for a month?

Beeline’s “Mega 7999” costs 7,999 tenge a month for 15GB, another 15GB on promotion and 100 minutes to Kazakh numbers (beeline.kz, 19 Oct 2026). “Mega 11999” costs 11,999 tenge a month with what Beeline calls “unlimited internet” and 150 minutes. Family plans run 15,999 to 23,999 tenge a month.

activ lists plans from about 3,690 tenge a month (activ.kz, 19 Oct 2026), but we could not read the data allowance, so we quote none. Neither operator’s page says whether a visitor on a foreign passport can sign up.

Both are monthly plans: on a 7-day trip you pay for a month and use a week. Prices stay in tenge as the operators show them; we don’t convert them.

A local SIM card, a globe with a roaming arc and a smartphone for a data eSIM
Three ways to get online in Kazakhstan: a local SIM, a roaming pack on your UAE line or a data eSIM

What does a week in Kazakhstan cost on e&, du or Virgin Mobile?

A week of data on your UAE line costs AED 70.00 for 5GB on du postpaid, AED 100.00 for 4GB on e& prepaid (until 10 Jan 2027, normally 2GB) and AED 100.00 for 2GB on Virgin Mobile (du, 19 Oct 2026; e&, 19 Oct 2026; Virgin Mobile, 19 Oct 2026). Kazakhstan is in the main roaming zone of all three.

du postpaid also lists 10GB for AED 100.00 and “Unlimited data” for AED 200.00 a week; we could not confirm a daily limit, so check du’s fair-use terms in the du app. Virgin’s 10GB week is AED 200.00. Kazakhstan is not on Virgin’s One Country page (34 countries, 15 Oct 2026), so a 20GB Virgin plan does not make it free.

Skip the pack and your UAE line stays offline for data in Almaty: all three operators block mobile data abroad, and only e& can open pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS. The packs in detail: e& Weekly Data pack, du postpaid 5GB weekly bundle.

Our Kazakhstan plans show the price in AED: unlimited data for 7 days is AED 98.99 (about AED 14.14 a day), at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps; 10GB for 30 days is AED 59.99. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see how to pay.

Install it before you fly; it connects when you land in Kazakhstan, and the days count from that first connection. It runs on Kcell 5G, with Tele2 on 3G, and a top-up goes on the same eSIM with no new QR code. Our eSIM does not provide service in the UAE.

The plan carries data only, so keep your UAE SIM switched on for calls and SMS (keep your UAE number). e& and Virgin don’t charge for SMS you receive abroad, and calls you receive are charged per minute.

A week in Kazakhstan: roaming pack vs eSIM

2.5× cheaper than prepaid packs

5.6 GB for 7 days (0.8 GB a day, social media and photos): the cheapest prepaid way to get it, and postpaid where it is lower.

e& roaming, prepaid7 GB · 7 days AED 150.00
du roaming, prepaid10 GB · 7 days AED 200.00
Virgin Mobile roaming, prepaid10 GB · 7 days AED 200.00
du roaming, postpaid10 GB · 7 days AED 100.00
eSIM in Kazakhstan2 × 3 GB · 30 days AED 57.98

On roaming your UAE number also takes calls and SMS; the eSIM is data only. Packs at the operator’s AED price, as listed on 19 Oct 2026; the eSIM at its AED price on 22 Oct, charged in AED by card. Work out your own trip.

Does a phone on a Kazakh SIM need registration?

Yes. activ’s FAQ says a device with a Kazakh operator’s SIM must be registered, while a visitor on a foreign operator’s SIM in roaming need not register it (activ, FAQ dated 2 Mar 2021). For non-residents, the page gives a passport number sent by SMS.

That FAQ is more than five years old, and we found no current official page with the procedure. The government runs portal.imei.gov.kz, which offers a free IMEI check.

Your UAE SIM in roaming falls outside that rule. Whether a foreign data eSIM counts as roaming the page does not say; it speaks of “a SIM card of a foreign operator”. Check your IMEI on the portal before you rely on it.

When is a Kazakh SIM the better buy?

A Kazakhstan SIM card is the better buy for a stay of a month or more, or for work that needs a Kazakh number. Beeline’s “Mega 7999” gives 15GB and 100 minutes to Kazakh numbers for 7,999 tenge a month (beeline.kz, 19 Oct 2026); our eSIM carries data only. Allow time to register the phone.

Our eSIM is the better buy for a trip of days: you pay for the days you travel, not a month, and nothing needs buying after you land. For a longer stay, compare unlimited eSIM plans of up to 30 days.

Kazakhstan, Uzbekistan and Kyrgyzstan in one trip

On our country plans, a Central Asia route takes one eSIM per country: 1GB for 7 days costs AED 14.99 in Kazakhstan, AED 14.99 in Uzbekistan and AED 22.99 in Kyrgyzstan. None of the three is among the 18 destinations of our Asia plan or the 41 of our Europe plan (15 Oct 2026).

Unlimited plan lengths differ by country (15 Oct 2026), and each runs at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps. Kyrgyzstan’s unlimited plans cannot be topped up, so pick the length before you pay. Install all three in the UAE before you fly; each plan’s days count from its first connection in its own country.

Check before you fly

What if the eSIM doesn’t work when you land in Kazakhstan?

Check four settings, in this order, before you write to us.

The first is the line for mobile data. On iPhone it is Settings > Cellular > Cellular Data; on Android, the SIM manager. Pick the travel line there; your UAE line stays on for calls and SMS, with its mobile data off.

The second is data roaming, for the eSIM line only. The eSIM is a foreign profile, so the phone treats Kazakhstan as roaming for it.

The third is the APN. On this plan it sets itself, so leave it alone; you don’t need to type one.

The fourth is a restart. Restart the phone or switch airplane mode on and off, and let it find KCELL and Tele 2; this can take a few minutes after you leave the plane.

Still no data? Write to us on WhatsApp or at support@esimgo.ae with your order number, or go through the no-signal checklist. Do not delete the eSIM to “try again”: a deleted profile usually cannot be installed twice from the same code. If the eSIM doesn't work and it isn't your phone's fault, we refund the payment whether or not it was installed.

What I’d choose (and when NOT to buy the eSIM)

For a week of maps, rides and messaging I’d take 1 GB for 7 days, AED 14.99. For two weeks or more, with photos and social media, I’d go for 5 GB for 30 days, AED 36.99. If you video-call and stream every day, take the unlimited plan for 7 days, AED 98.99, with 3 GB a day at full speed, then 1 Mbps.

I would not recommend the eSIM in three cases. If you need calls or SMS on your UAE number every day, roaming on your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line keeps them, and some packs include minutes (compare the packs). If your phone has no eSIM or is locked to one operator, it cannot take the plan: check your model first. And if your group travels together all day and shares one connection, a pocket Wi-Fi can cover everyone.

FAQ

Is there a tourist SIM card in Kazakhstan?

No tourist plan is listed. Beeline’s tariff page and activ’s tariff list show no plan for tourists or foreigners (beeline.kz, activ.kz, 19 Oct 2026). We found no official page listing the documents a visitor needs for a Kazakh SIM.

Do I need to register my phone in Kazakhstan?

With a Kazakh SIM, yes. activ says a device with a Kazakh operator’s SIM must be registered, and one on a foreign operator’s SIM in roaming need not be (activ FAQ dated 2 Mar 2021). Whether a foreign data eSIM counts as roaming is not stated.

Which operators sell SIMs to visitors?

Kazakhstan’s SafeTravel portal lists three, with their points of sale: Altel, Beeline and Kcell (safetravel.kz, 19 Oct 2026). Tele2 is not on that list. Kcell is also the network of our data eSIM.

Is there an unlimited eSIM for Kazakhstan?

Yes: unlimited data for 3, 5, 7, 10, 15 or 30 days, at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps. It runs on Kcell 5G and Tele2 3G. The plan is data-only, so calls and SMS stay on your UAE SIM.

Will my UAE SIM use data in Kazakhstan without a pack?

No. e&, du and Virgin Mobile block mobile data abroad until you add a roaming pack. e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS. A week on du postpaid is 5GB for AED 70.00 (15 Oct 2026).
