What the spec sheet says
- Apple UAE tech specs, iPhone 17: “SIM Card: Dual eSIM (two active eSIMs; stores eight or more eSIMs)”, “iPhone 17 uses advanced eSIM technology for more convenience and security (not compatible with physical SIM cards)”.
- An iPhone bought in China mainland has no eSIM: Apple says only iPhone 18 Pro, 18 Pro Max, 17e and Air support eSIM there. In Hong Kong and Macao, some models have two nano-SIM slots instead.
Check your phone in a minute
Open Settings → Cellular: if there is an Add eSIM or Set Up Cellular option, your iPhone 17 has eSIM.
If your phone has no eSIM
No eSIM option, no travel eSIM: don’t buy one. Your options abroad are your operator’s roaming pack, a local SIM card bought on arrival, or a pocket Wi-Fi: compare roaming packs and eSIM prices in AED.
