# Germany SIM card from the UAE: CallYa prepaid, roaming or eSIM

A Germany SIM card from Vodafone CallYa costs €4.99 for 2GB over 4 weeks (Vodafone, 16 Oct 2026), but German law switches on every prepaid SIM only after an ID check. A roaming pack on your UAE number runs from AED 35.00 for a day to AED 100.00 for a week. A data-only eSIM on O2 starts at AED 14.99 for 1GB and 7 days. We sell travel eSIMs, so we have an interest here; eSIM Go is not affiliated with e&, du, Virgin Mobile UAE or Vodafone.

## Data in Germany from the UAE: the options side by side

Four routes get you online in Germany: a CallYa SIM at €4.99, a pack on your UAE line from AED 35.00, Virgin One Country at AED 0.00 on 20GB+ plans, or a data eSIM at AED 14.99 installed before you fly. Your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line won't use mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack (e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS).

## A German prepaid SIM: the ID check by law, and CallYa prices

Germany requires an ID check before any prepaid SIM is switched on, so a Germany SIM card is a shop visit or a video call before it is a connection. Vodafone's CallYa bills every 4 weeks, from €4.99 for 2GB to €19.99 for 100GB (16 Oct 2026).

TKG §172(2) tells prepaid providers to verify the customer "vor der Freischaltung" (before activation) against an ID or a passport, including one "recognised under foreigners' law" (our translation). O2 writes: "Auch Touristen müssen sich per Ausweis legitimieren (Video-Ident oder im Shop vor Ort)." We could not confirm that either network accepts a UAE passport for the video check, so ask before you rely on it.

CallYa is a 4-week tariff, not a tourist pack. On a 7-day trip Allnet Flat S costs about €1.43 for each day you are there, against €0.36 over its 28 days. CallYa wins on a stay of 4 weeks or more, or when you need a German number. We have no Telekom prepaid prices; check telekom.de. Our eSIM asks for no ID check, and its days start when it first connects in Germany.

## e&, du and Virgin Mobile in Germany: a week and One Country

A week in Germany is AED 100.00 on all three UAE operators: 4GB on e& prepaid, 10GB on du postpaid or 2GB on Virgin (15 Oct 2026). Germany is in e&'s preferred zone, du's zone A and Virgin's pack zone.

| Pack | Line | Data · days | AED | about AED per GB |
|---|---|---|---|---|
| e& Roaming Weekly Data | prepaid | 4GB until 10 Jan 2027 · 7 | 100.00 | 25.0 |
| du roaming data bundle | postpaid | 10GB · 7 | 100.00 | 10.0 |

The per-GB column is our arithmetic. Pack rules: [e&](/roaming/etisalat/), [du](/roaming/du/).

On Virgin Mobile UAE plans of 20GB and up, Germany costs AED 0.00: it is on the [Virgin One Country](/roaming/virgin-mobile/) list (34 countries on the page, 15 Oct 2026), and the pass uses your plan's data. It does not renew on its own; Virgin's page says "Don't forget to re-activate every month." du also sells its own Travel eSIM for Germany: about AED 16.53 (US$4.5) for 1GB and 7 days (du, 15 Oct 2026).

Our Germany eSIM joins a local network, O2. Unlimited data for 7 days is AED 59.99 (about AED 8.57 a day), at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps, and 10GB for 30 days is AED 43.99; every price in AED is on the [Germany eSIM plans](/esim-germany/) page. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee; see [how to pay](/how-to-pay/).

Install before you fly; it connects when you land in Germany, and top-up is possible. On Android, our Germany plan needs the APN set by hand, while iPhone sets it automatically ([APN settings](/help/apn-settings/)). Keep your UAE SIM switched on for SMS; e& and Virgin don't charge for SMS you receive abroad, and calls you receive are charged per minute. Our Germany eSIM is data-only ([keep your UAE number](/help/keep-your-uae-number/)) and does not provide service in the UAE. If the eSIM has not connected to any network, you can get a refund within 30 days of purchase.

## Germany plus neighbours: the country plan or the Europe plan

Our Germany plan works in Germany only. All 27 EU countries are in e&'s preferred zone and du's zone A, and 26 of 27 in Virgin's pack zone (15 Oct 2026).

The EU's "roam like at home" rule covers SIMs from EU and EEA operators (Your Europe, 16 Oct 2026), and CallYa cards list "EU-Roaming inklusive"; Vodafone's tariff page does not say how much of the data works outside Germany, so check before you cross a border. Your e&, du or Virgin line pays UAE roaming rates in every EU country. Virgin's pass covers one country a month; Austria is not on its list, while [France](/sim-card/france/), Italy and Switzerland are.

Berlin, Prague and Vienna in one trip: buy a regional plan once, and check every stop against the [Europe eSIM plans](/esim-europe/) page or the [Europe SIM card guide](/sim-card/europe/).

## FAQ

### Do I need ID to buy a SIM in Germany?

Yes. German law (TKG §172) requires an ID check before any prepaid SIM is activated; tourists show a passport in a shop or by video (O2, 16 Oct 2026). We could not confirm that a UAE passport works for the video check. Our data eSIM needs no ID check.

### What does Vodafone CallYa cost?

From €4.99 for 2GB to €19.99 for 100GB per 4 weeks, and €79.99 for CallYa Black with unlimited data (Vodafone, 16 Oct 2026). Every card lists "EU-Roaming inklusive". On a 7-day trip, Allnet Flat S at €9.99 is about €1.43 a day.

### Is Germany in Virgin One Country?

Yes. Germany is one of the 34 countries on Virgin's One Country page (15 Oct 2026), free on Virgin plans of 20GB and up and using your plan's data. The pass covers one country a month and does not renew on its own.

### Is there an unlimited eSIM for Germany?

Yes, with a daily cap: 7 days is AED 59.99 (about AED 8.57 a day), at full speed up to 3GB a day, then 1 Mbps. It runs on O2 and is data-only; 1GB for 7 days is AED 14.99. Charged in AED by JET SHARING (USA). Your bank may add a foreign-transaction fee.

### Does my UAE SIM use data in Germany without a pack?

No. Your e&, du or Virgin Mobile line won't use mobile data abroad unless you add a roaming pack; e& lets you unlock pay-as-you-go data for 24 hours by SMS. A week on du postpaid is AED 100.00 for 10GB (15 Oct 2026).
